Riding sail

Hello:
I picked up a riding sail this spring at a local consignment shop and just wanted to post how much I like it. My last use was on my way to Block Island during the tropical storm "Arthur" I pulled into Point Judith, RI and was anchored in a cove there It really calmed the boat down and made a big difference. It is one of the better things I purchased this year. Anyone else out there ever use one?

What are the dimensions roughly, and is it cut perfectly flat?  I was considering making one from a section of old sail.

Hi people:
I can tell you it hanks onto to the back stay above the split. It has a loop on it to attach a halyard to raise it up the back stay and has a line going forward which I cleat off on a cleat which on the side face of the mast a few feet below the boom. I usually move the traveler to the opposite side of the mast that I cleat the forward line to (so the line doesn't rub up against the sail or sail cover). I will measure it up and take a picture or two next time I go to the boat. This particular one was made by
Sailrite for someone.

I too for my 19 been pondering making one. I have never seen one in use necessarily, nor tied off properly.

Any input you have as far as how you tied it off and the conditions  you were under?

Interesting video....
I may have not been using it to its full potential. I'll have to try running the line forward to a station base instead of a cleat on the side of the mast. I thought it worked pretty well the wrong way, I'm curious to see how well it works the correct way!!!

I've been using one on my 23 for years and love it. Reduces swing at mooring or anchor by half.   Reduces the wear and strain on my mooring tackle andmakes ffor a more comfortable sleep aboard.  Picked it up at a nautical flea market for 5 clams.
