The Works works!

There was mild oxidation on the hull of my Compac 23.  I wanted to clean her and wax her.

I had heard about people using the Toilet Cleaner named The Works to use to take stains off of the hull.  I decided that it couldn't hurt to give it a try.

I began by using a scrubbing pad and putting the works onto it.  I then rubbed areas of the hull down with this.  After it was on for a bit I then went back with a clean rag and wiped it off.

After I did this I washed the boat with normal boat soap.

Once the boat was dry I then used a 3M wax and polish product.  The results were pretty good.

Tomorrow I will do a second coat of wax.  I am really impressed on how the boat looks after just the first coat.

Elbow grease and Mequire's #49 rubbing compound.
Rub till it's super smooth.
Then wax 'ON' wax 'Off' a couple of times. Should take two days on the hard by hand.

Mac; Teflon based polish is great stuff BUT ! ! Teflon makes a dirty boat appear clean and shiny. What is under the Teflon is more important as through the years this buried dirt accumulates. Some day it all has to come off. Just saying. "It looks better then it is".

At the marina, My guys use a Teflon based polish on the boats. Holds up well. It is made by Starbrite, but what I got for my boat was cheaper, and seems to be the same quality, from Walmart, a marine polish in the marine section.

When you used "The Works" did you use a scrub brush, or just let it do its thing?

I have been using the "the Works" on my boats for years. Kills everything instantly.  Use only the liquid and not the gel.  I even cut it with water and put it in a pump sprayer.  Be sure to rinse clean, especially galvanized trailers.

Wow, you folks need to be careful with that stuff.  There is a reason they put it in that controlled applicator bottle.  Essentially you are using hydrochloric acid.  Better stay upwind of that stuff if you are spraying it.

This is exactly why I washed the boat off after using the works.  I also used gloves when putting it on.  It did an amazing job.

I have two coats of wax on it now.  It looks great!

I agree with being careful with this stuff.  I probably won't have to do this again because if I keep wax on the hull it will prevent the need for this.  It does excellent taking stains off of the waterline though and that may be the only application.  Again, rinse, rinse, rinse.

I used 'Tidy Bowl' when the boat was on the hard.  It seemed to work pretty good.  Recommended to me by the same fellow that recommended using indelible black markers on the prop to stunt marine growth.  Both suggestions seem to work.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner - for when your boat looks like crap!
Makes sense, why didn't I think of it before?

Good one Rick, I did not make the connection.

Another pun:

I know that the method I used work.  Spraying it on might work, but it would be a real crap shoot!

This works great for the wire welder gas cones too. Keeps the 'smag' off the cup.
Have no idea why. better living through chemistry.
