Elk,

You can't take it over FROM someone, because we are just all not running it. You can take it OVER, though, and please do! I'm okay with the 8th of November, so far.

Hey All:
I went down to Union Point yesterday and looked carefully around.

There are no restriction signs on the docks.  There are three finger piers and one floating dock.  They do catch the wind pretty good, so any wind from the south would make them a little lumpy.

Likewise on the trailer parking spots, no restrictions.  Yesterday morning they were empty.  There is a head by the trailer parking.  I would think that the parking there is just as secure as the lot by Persimmons.

There is an Ohio joke about a man who left his car unlocked with four tickets to a Browns game on the dashboard.  When he got back there were a dozen tickets on the dash!  You gotta lock up your vehicles.

regards charlie

As Bruce is listed as a Captain and I as lowly foredeck crew, I know how to follow orders (plus, the 19th makes 40 years of marriage, so I REALLY know how to follow orders...), so I hereby announce that the 2014 Autumn NNR (Neuse River Rendezvous) will take place on the weekend of Nov 8 - 9.  Lady Elk and myself will drive down on Friday, the 7th, and hopefully get there early enough to launch.  I will probably call Parks & Recreation, but if there are no restriction signs up, I suppose we can indeed park right there at Union Park.  When we get to New Bern, I will monitor C.B. Channel 19, when we splash, VHF Channel 16, and of course, my cell phone will always be on.  Anyone can send me a personal message (I would say PM, but not too long ago, someone up in Barnegat Bay went on a tirade abt txt wrds & shthnd, note too menshin hes h8trd uv spelng errrrers [said person, of course, remaining anonymous])  and I can reply with my phone number.  I am not paranoid, but I believe only members are privy to the profiles.  We will have to head back on Sunday, but as we have a crew cab pick-up, I can make a sleeper berth out of the back seat for Lady Elk, so we won't need to cut out wicked early.  I have ordered a Maptech fold-out chartlet of the Neuse and Pamlico Rivers, plus showing some of the sound.  I will, however, leave any destination ideas to those of you who are local and have a better idea what might be accomplished in the given time-frame we are working with. Those who were there and can remember the BBB 2014, can tell you that we tend to carry a fair amount of food on board, so we do not have a huge need for restaurants, but are willing to go with the flow of other's desires.

I trust this will meet with other interested parties' approval.  If so, I look forward to meeting all who can attend.

     Fair winds,

I just saw this. Checking with Admiral to see if we can make it. Sounds fun.

Eye herd thet!
NRR sounds great. And tis true that Mr. and Mrs. Elk can carry enough provisions on board that little 19 to feed a small army.
Have a great time...still sailing up here in NJ.

     Ahoy, Bob!!:

Why don't you tag along? We'll throw your Walker in the bed of my pick-up and you can sleep in the cockpit of Blue Heaven.  Think of all the good, hearty food available (sorry, bring your own potato chips...).  Should be warmer there on the Neuse than on Barnegat Bay.

     Good to hear from you,

Seems like this is shaping up; thanks to Elk and Charlie, and anyone who can make it.

I'll see if I can also make it.

PS, Every time I click something on the site, it opens up in a new tab; what's up with that, I wonder....

Perhaps during that first week of November, all who are going to partake of the ANRR (Autumn Neuse River Rendezvous) can chime in to say they will be there and what will be a good starting time for everyone.  If the starting point is to be different than Union Point Park, that can be pointed out.  A decision can also be made as to breakfast at home for the local crowd or at a restaurant to briefly go over cruising plans, a skipper's meeting, so to speak.  Or, folks could just show up and we could decide to go sailing downriver until it's late enough to anchor for the night.  We are very flexible in the plans department.

I am looking forward to meeting all who dare to sail with us.

I remain, with wishes for fair winds,

     Respectfully yours,

Looks good for me to leave Raleigh on Friday some time; might be able to meet up with others who are arriving or already there on Friday afternoon/night for socializing.

My boat is at Blackbeard Sailing Club, just downriver from New Bern; if all goes well, I could come out into the river and join the group any time after sunup.

Looking forward to a nice day on the water, and to seeing if I can sail my CP 23 any better this time with the new Ruddercraft rudder.

All:
Looks like this is coming together nicely...have a great time...still sailing up here in NJ. Obviously I can't make it- my daughter is up from Florida and we'll have an early Thanksgiving this Saturday. Looking forward to photo-journalistic coverage of this epic event.
But keep an eye on Mr. Elk: he'll steal every potato chip you have on board!

As the weather this weekend looks conducive to sailing, it will be a go for us to trailer down and meet with all that show up.  We may not make it in time to launch on Friday, but will play that aspect by ear when we arrive.

As to the questionable insinuation of a previous post, those who would be desirous of the TRUTH, the WHOLE TRUTH and NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH may continue to read, as this will be the only place where the aforementioned TRUTH will be available.   Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, let me assure you that in order to actually 'steal' any potato chips as my esteemed sailing associate has falsely warned you about, said chips must ACTUALLY MAKE IT to the rendezvous destination, a situation that occurred at the BBB 2014 that he has, for reasons known only to himself, failed to mention.  Hence, in the potato chip department, there was nothing to steal.  An on-going investigation continues into the disappearance of said chips.   Had any (with the emphasis on ANY) potato chips been available, it is possible I would have partaken of same, but, alas, that was not the case as there were none to partake of, although there had been before the lines were slipped in the morning.  I had to be content with salad and other nutritious food from Blue Heaven's larder.  I did, however, partake of one of the honorable Sean Reid's hotdogs, a fine gentleman that was helmsman on my esteemed sailing associate's vessel.  Thus endeth my closing statement on the issue.  I trust that you of the jury will not find on your doorstop a case or more of something called 'PBR', with a Garden State return address, to sway your thinking (in another thread, we learned that said PBR is not fit for human consumption, which should tell you something...).

     See you folks this weekend,

I'm guilty as charged. May the court be merciful in sentencing me. I appeal to the benevolent Judge Elk and ask for leniency. And a bag of Cape Cod sea salt and vinegar!:)
Wish I could be there with you guys- hoist a PBR for me!

Mmmm, yum; home-made chocolate chip cookies just coming out of the oven and a loaf of bread will be ready in an hour or so.  Any takers in the ANRR?
