Thinking about a Com-Pac meetup (not the big one).  Its alway fun to see others ideas and talk boats.  We sail Sea Witch out of Wrightsville Beach and keep her from time to time in Oriental.  If interested in a summer weekend meetup lets see how much interest there is?  Maybe New Bern or Oriental or Cape Lookout.  We are planning on honeymooning week of 5/11 through 5/17 up around Pamlico Sound.  3-4 boats are enough for me to have another reason to head north.

Hi, Wayne,

I have a 23 in New Bern; I'd be interested in meeting up any time you are in the area. I could sail down to Oriental for a place to meet on a weekend.

I'd really enjoy this; count me in! I keep my 19 on the Pamlico River between Washington and Bath. I've often trailered her to Oriental to sail that area on the Neuse.

By June I hope to have my project 27 back in the water, which will allow me to tackle longer trips (Ocacoke, Cape Lookout etc.) which are a little too aggressive for the 19. By aggressive I mean bigger wind and water, not just distances.

The Pamlico (river, not sound) is excellent sailing for smaller boats like the 16 and 19. Kind of a mini-Neuse that's less likely to provoke a heart attack.

I have a CP-19 and sail the Neuse River in areas such as New Bern, Oriental, South River. Boat is on trailer so I could meet anywhere.

It's encouraging to see so much positive response by NC sailors, especially since Keith Scott has had to cancel his annual CP sailing event two years in a row for lack of interest. Keith feels it's because people are too busy with other things, don't want to spend money in a down economy, are getting older with fewer young people coming along to replace them, or all of the above.

I lean more to a change in how people get information on upcoming events - we are becoming accustomed to having announcements "pushed" to us through email and social media, rather than being required to take the initiative to visit web sites like Keith's to seek out info. CPYOA might be an unusual exception - there's a passion here that draws us to check in frequently.

Thoughts?

In any event, including Keith in whatever event gets planned here would be lovely. He is the dean of NC sailing as far as I'm concerned, and an amazing resource on all things Com-Pac.

I'm all for inviting Keith.

He picked Mother's Day for the first one; then, I don't know what the issue with the second one was, other than the weather. Still, if more people knew and signed up, even with a few cancellations, there'd still be a group to go.

Always a good time with Keith Scott around.

I'll be glad to meet you guys.

I think this forum has reached a critical mass in terms of number of active sailors that makes it a better site for organizing NC sailing events than Keith's web site. I also think Keith is a little tired of carrying the ball and would welcome just showing up at an event that others had organized.

I like the idea of an event that's manageable for all sizes of Com-Pacs, either instead of or in addition to a more aggressive event for the bigger boats. Wonder if we have enough interest to hold two events a year? After all we do have a very long sailing season (I say it's 12 months long, but my wife doesn't agree).

I'd be glad to help with organizing. Many hands make light work.

I agree Wes; let's have a rendezvous and invite Keith along.

I could meet in New Bern or Oriental for the start of whatever we do. I try to go most weekends, so any date yawl pick other than over the Memorial Holiday weekend is fine with me.

We still going with this get together?  Any hard dates.  My calendar is very open, but I want to redo my steering.

I see we need to draw a line in the sand.

I cannot participate over Memorial Day, or the weekend of 21 June and we might need some notice for the best turnout.

What about June 7/8, 28/29, or a weekend in July, not around the 4th?

Respondez, if you please, haha.

I could do June 28/28 or any time in July. Possibly some brave soul should set up a poll on this forum for voting on date preferences, like the Florida guys did?

So far good with those dates.  But Hey I am retired and every day is a Saturday, except Sunday when the Admiral likes to go to church.

Look for a poll on dates. Good idea.

Hey Yawl,
Not that I will be able to participate in this rendezvous, but just to let you know we are here in Southport.
Sailing a CP23.
We love sailing in this area with its challenges of the Cape Fear River mouth.
One day we will join up to one of these outings.
Meanwhile, if you are down sailing this way, look us up.
Too much work , and too little play.
Southport is a lovely town. Numerous places to dock or moor. Many nice restaurants and charm.
