The Admiral and I officially christened our Com-Pac this evening. We popped a bottle of blueberry flavored champagne from the local south jersey Renault Winery. With a few kind words we bid farewell to 'Puff' and welcomed 'Floridaze' to a new life of sailing along with fair winds and a following sea. With a quick splash we quickly retired back inside away from the mosquitoes and downed the rest of the bottle. Come Saturday July 1st we launch for the first time. Thanks to all of you for following along and lending a word of encouragement and/or advice.

-Kevin

PS. Thanks Dusty for that sailboat marquee, did you make that yourself or what?

well, i saw your name marquee-ing, and i thought, "ooh, sailboat!", so i went and googled, "ascii sailboat", found this link, but i didn't think the sailboats there quite looked like a cp16, and wouldn't have done floridaze justice, so i stole the water ascii, but made the rest. no wind yesterday, but today it was howling at times. devo & i took eva out on a date, and, i guess this is my sixth or seventh time out with her, had her heeled over further than i'd ever done - gaining confidence and all. had a freakin' blast, but stayed out too late.

anyway, congratulations on the christening of your ship. you must be excited. i tell you, you have patience to an extent i can only dream of. your boat is looking absolutely fantastic. i would be embarrassed if you saw mine... but, i'm waiting for july and august with probably less wind to commit a weekend or two into dressing the hull and interior - the stuff that must sit for 24 or so hours until another coat. did get new tires and repainted the mudguards, recarpeted the bunk boards, and finally got all the vinyl & sticker adhesive off in preparation for the oxalic acid bath, new baby blue painted cove and boot stripe, and my bottles of 3m fiberglass restorer/polisher and polisher.

and anyway again, man, i am excited for you! i can't wait until july 1st to hear about it!

Well I guess I'm ready as I'll ever be. There are still a bunch of things I'd like to do but that will be a continuing thing. I'm now ready for some sailing in between the working. Keep a sharp eye out for a new thread of the maiden launch and sail of 'Floridaze'.

Have a safe and happy 4th everyone!

Well I did a bit of work on the trailer since the boat was in the water. One of the reasons I had such trouble launching was two of my roller were bent and hence would not roll.
So I took the time to replace them and hope things will work much smoother on haul out and the next launch.

Well we pulled Floridaze out of the water after six days. The tilt action on the trailer worked great but the make-shift winch post didn't hold up so well and started to bend a bit. So I just ordered some new parts to fix that before our next launch after we return from vacation.

Hi Kevin,
Finally got back to work on the Teddy B. Pulled the rub rails, and compared to mine, your mess looked great. (Die grinder worked great at removing the old caulking, if that is what it was). Had a real problem stretching the rails back on, even in 102 degree ambient. Wound up having to rig a come-along to a tree, and force stretched them. You would think that after 31 years, they would have developed a set, but no luck.  Just wondering if you found an easier method to this madness. Have been keeping up with your progress, and am a bit envious as it looks more like Sept or so before we wet the keel after 22 years of neglect. (With my luck, another hurricane will probably cross Fla about then). Looks like Floridaze was a major success --- congrats!!!   --- Pat

Thanks Pat!
Well I made it back from our Florida vacation and am just about back to normal around the house and work. I did install the new winch post on my trailer since the other "thing" I had on there wasn't quite up to the task.

I hope to get back out sailing this Saturday so I have my fingers crossed for some wind.

PS.
I did rent a Hobie Cat down in the Bahama's, it was fun but could have had a little more wind.

Well I am almost ready to pull the trigger on buying a CP-19. So I thought I'd throw my 16 up on the classifieds to see if anyone is interested.

Thanks for looking and following along on this little Com-Pac's new life, I couldn't have done it without all you guys and gals.  And she ain't done yet, this little boat is ready for someone else to take over the reins and enjoy her for years to come.
