I posted this in the Sailor's Lounge and figured that maybe I should have posted it here since I am trying to connect with other Sun Cat owners:

I recently purchased a 2008 Sun Cat Daysailer in New Jersey and had it shipped to my hometown of Seattle.  I've been looking at Com-Pac cat boats for a couple of years now and wanted to thank everyone who posts in this forum for the wealth of information that you provided, especially to those individuals that post frequently in the Sun Cat section.  The information contained on this site was very helpful in making a decision to purchase a Sun Cat and more recently in preparing the boat for my first sail (on this boat).  I've owned a couple of larger moored sailboats and am looking forward to sailing (and maintaining) a smaller boat with sailing characteristics of a larger boat.  I chose the daysailer because of the large cockpit area that can accommodate a small group of friends in comfort.  I will miss the interior accommodations and will have to make do with a boom tent camping sort of arrangement for overnight trips in the Puget Sound, San Juan Islands and British Columbia.  I look forward to being part of this forum and getting to know many of the folks whose advice has been so invaluable.

Welcome to the  Sun Cat forum.  The Sun Cat is a great boat and I'm sure you'll love to trail and sail it.  What a great area you have to explore!

Hi Eric - welcome. I'd hazard a guess that most of us here are so ridiculously obsessed with these boats that we read all the new posts regardless of category. So I don't think it's too critical which forum you post in!

I'm a 19 guy, but still enjoy following the catboat posts too.

Eric in Seattle,

A very warm WELCOME ABOARD!

You were right in posting Sun Cat specific questions/information here - the first place we Sun Cat Owners frequent.

Hope you enjoy your Sun Cat Daysailer.

Hi Eric, may I ask how much you paid for the 2008 Daysailer? That's the same year boat I'm looking at here in Florida. If you prefer to correspond through email let me know and I'll send you my email address. Thanks in advance.

I paid $9,250 and then spent another $2,000 to ship it from New Jersey to Seattle.  The boat had been on the market for a while with several price reductions and a motivated seller.  I would've paid more if I didn't need to ship it across the country.  Looking at the picture and equipment of the 2008 Daysailer that is for sale in Miami, I would say that they are very similar.  My boat did have a couple of quarter sized dings in the gelcoat that I needed to repair.  I also sanded and refinished all of the teak.

Good luck in your boat search.

Tsailor, I think there is a used Suncat Daysailer for sale in Port Charlotte. Not sure of the dealer name but I can check the next time I am over on 41 if you are interested.

Hi Eric,

Thanks very much for the info. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. The one I'm looking at in Orlando is an odd case as it was built in 2008 and never sold. So it's "like new" in one sense of the word. They are asking about $16k with the trailer and no engine. On the one hand it sounds like a lot of money for an 8 year old boat and on the other hand it has been kept under cover and never sailed. Not sure exactly how to get a 'comparable" on it.

Happy sailing!

Hi Craig. That's a very kind offer. Yes, if you don't mind, I would like more info on the Port Charlotte Suncat Daysailer. Thank you!

TSailor,

I am familiar with the new 2008 Daysailer in Orlando.  I sent them an email with what I considered to be a very good offer for a 2008 Sun Cat Daysailer.  They didn't even bother responding to me (probably because they thought my offer was too low); I was sure to email them back to retract my offer after the purchase of my boat (they still didn't respond).  I wouldn't buy that boat for anything close to what they are asking for it, even though it is new, because the minute you drive/sail that boat off their lot, it is a used 2008 Daysailer that is worth no more than the other Daysailers on the market.  I venture to say that you could end up with that 2008 Daysailer in Miami for at least $5,000 less than the Orlando boat when factoring the cost of the motor.

Hi Eric,

Thanks very much for your advice. I will check out the one in Miami. I hope you have a great sailing season in Seattle!
