I agree with the 1/2" line.  I am wanting to replace the rode with 1/2" line nylon braid.

My old CP 23 has the lights up front where others have their deckpipes. I'm going to have to put mine back a bit, maybe on the flat part near the raised area that has the cleat.

Below, in another thread, I discussed the wiring for the lights being loose in the anchor locker, and I'll put them in a piece of pvc against the bulkhead.

Here's how the oval deck pipe turned out for me. I'm pretty sure a longer anchor shaft would just barely fit to the side (my anchor is close in the pics but will slide to starboard).

Hey Jim:
Make sure you wire that shackle shut. If Murphey's in town, that thing could back out leaving that nice anchor on the bottom...or worse: your boat on the hard.

This should look interesting when I am done.  I am glad to get rid of the small deck pipe because it did make it a challenge to quickly put the anchor rode back.  Nothing like being single handed in a windy crowded anchorage and trying to stuff rope and chain down a small hole!  LOL

My deck is getting crowded up there.  I have the tack line for the spinnaker, the furling line for the furler, a chain stopper, and the deck pipe.  The halyard for the spinnaker is tied off on both ends to the bow pulpit too so it is busy up there!

Thanks for the reminder Bob! I took everything apart for the annual Semco application. Trying to launch this weekend but the list keeps growing.

Deck pipe installation on Com-pac 23. I have an oblong deckpipe I bought to put in. I got this kind so the chain will fit through it. I got an idea from a friend to start the hole from underneath, so I can put it where it needs to go for the rode to hit the chain locker. Next steps would be marking from outside to get the placement and orientation right. Any further ideas from yawl folks?

Here is the deckpipe on my Compac 23.

I have a 22lb lewmar claw up there.  It works well for what I do.

I have the same one and the original factory pipe as well. I keep 2 separate anchor lines stowed in separated compartments. One pipe for each line.

BruceW

Bob, is your oblong deck pipe in same location as Heave's ?

No, mine larger one is aft of the bow rail. And the small original equipment one is at about 7 oclock in relation to his large one.

Thanks, Bob; these pictures above are the farthest forward I have seen them.

Thx for bringing up this subject and the pictures. Mudlark has an original, round pipe that has seen better days. Not sure I'll get to it this season as my primary project is to lead my main halyard to the cockpit and make a few electrical repairs, but it's on my list.

When I put in my deckpipe I just used the old hole and enlarged it.

In my fore-peak the Previous Owner put a bucket in there for the rode and chain to sit in.  That worked for the old arrangement with smaller chain and a smaller rode, but with my 1/4" chain at 30 feet and my 100 feet of 1/2" rode don't really fit in there.  Underneath the bucket I have some concrete in a small bucket for weight to balance the boat out a bit.  I wonder if I removed the bucket if the rode would get hung up on the small bucket with the concrete in it.

What do you guys think?
