Too many Boats?

Well L & Gs,

I've gone and done it.  I purchased not one but two boats yesterday.  The first is a 1985 Gloucester Buccaneer 18 in mint condition. Like new sails, good trailer. For those that don't know, a Buccaneer 18 is a fast planing daysailer.  It is also a boat I don't need.  My sailing fleet now includes a Sunfish, a Finn, this Bucc, my CP-19, and a Hunter 23.

The other boat is a 20' single rowing shell, wanna race Bob?

Bought em both from the same guy for $500.  Couldn't pass em up.  Stooooopid me.

Total fleet includes these, plus 3 jet ski's, a pontoon, a ski boat, and a 12' Starcraft rowboat.  The Admiral says I have to rename our dock to Timothy's Marina and Beer Joint.

good for you, Tim.  This means that when you invite us all down for a gathering at your house, none of us will actually need to bring boats along - we can just launch your fleet.    Do you have a fleet ensign for each of the boats?   jt

Too many Boats?

That is not a concept that I can understand. 8)

Too many boats?

I'm with Brack on this one. Too many???

My common excuse explanation is that it's an investment. It's my rental fleet for income in my retirement years. Forget stocks and bonds, boats are the thing.  :)

Tim,
A Man needs a lot boats......in case his wife makes him sell a few!

Hi Tim - how about a new CPYOA metric in addition to Karma? I suggest "Fleet Feet." This would be the sum total length of all boats currently owned. Clearly you would dominate the competition.

M wife has on occasion acused me of having too many boats. My reply is always the same: One wife, many boats." She hasn't been able to argue with that!

20' shell? Nah...you'll beat me by a mile...but it would be fun to race!

Is that a fleet or an Armada?!? Those buzzing jet skies are offensive weapons, are they not?   ;D

That Buccaneer sounds like a blast. I hope you get to enjoy her long enough to realize it's too fast and you can't quite possibly enjoy a nice glass of wine on it, and geez water just comes right in and gets your feet wet and you'll sell it to me at cost, well, just because we're buds. ;D

My first boat was her younger sister in design, the Chrysler Man 'O War. 14 feet of on your hiking straps planing fun. I never turtled it, but did fly off of it during a knockdown. There is nothing like learning to sail on a fast planing design.  Stuff happened quick, and almost no forgiveness for mishandling.
I admit, I want another one but larger...and the Buccaneer seems to fit the bill.

Made the next boat, our beloved but now sold CP16, seem like a pussy cat in comparison. Worst case scenario in a CP16:  you spill your sandwich on the cockpit floor.  :D  Worse scenario in a Man 'o War: Turn turtle, loose mast and daggerboard to Davy Jones and hope you can swim back to land.

We all should converge on your marina one day..all we need is a catchy name to draw interest.  ;D

Answers to questions:  Fleet feet =181'  (190' if you include the bar on the lower level of my dock)

The Bar:

The jet skis are offensive.  I use them to pillage beer from my friends docks.  They are also useful retrieval devices for when one of the boats without auxiliary power is becalmed, or when liquid refreshment supplies run low on said becalmed crafts.

Y'all all are welcome to visit any time, no special event needed.

Absolutely stunning.  Where are you located?  I'm blessed to be caretaker of two boats; a Carver 36 aft cabin and a brand new Horizon Cat ( which I especially enjoy after my trip to the dark side)

Wow, what a great setup.  How much to be a member of your yacht club?  I was lucky enough to sail the Bucaneer Nationals in Kenosha in 2010.  Great boat, great time.  My first boat was a Thistle.  I love centerboard one design boats.  $500 is a great price too!  Ralph

Well L&Gs this saga continues:

I spent some time cleaning up the Bucc at the local car wash, and a fellow walks up and say's " Nice Bucc, I've always wanted one."
I said, " This one is for sale, I'll take $1500.00 for it."
He said, "I give you 800 and my Mutineer from the same company."
I said, " Lets have a look at your Mutineer"

So, this morning I went over to his place, towing the Bucc, and took a good hard look at the Mutineer.  The only thing missing was a spinnaker chute, but the sails were only 2 years old, & the trailer is in great condition, so I said " $1000 & your Mutt & it's a done deal"

I drove away with $1K in my pocket and a really nice Mutt.

So, I'm  net $500.00 richer, and still own too many boats.  My only regret is not having sailed the Bucc.

I'm feeling a little shamefully capitalistic ....NAAAA!  But this Bucc and Mutt talk is making me a little pirate-like. Oh, & my Fleet Feet number is now down to 187'

TG:
I think you need to add an Adirodack Guideboat to your fleet! That would bring you over the 200' mark and you'll enjoy some great rowing on the lake.
All:
We really should descend upon Time's Cove this winter. Looks like a great place to meet up and as JT noted, we don't even need to bring boats...a fleet already awaits us!

I'm thinkin' I should stay as far away from TG as possible. He seems to be able to talk people out of stuff and I don't want to loose any of my boats.
