As you guys know from my past posts my mast has a beg dent and a bend on it and been looking for a replacement. Well when I saw the post on the classified section I jumped on it. My friend and myself Left Bucks County PA at around 5am this morning to make the trek up to Syracuse NY 230 miles each way.  We made it up there around 9:30 am, where loaded up and on our way back by 11:15am.

I have to give a big thanks to Emmet he gave me a great deal at a great price

Here is what I ended up with  ;D  ;D  ;D

Mast with all standing rigging
Roller reefing boom
Boom Vang
4 sails   Main, Jib, Storm Jib, Genoa
Tiller, Tiller mount and cover
8 hp Evinrude Yachttwin.  He said the motor has sat for about 10 years but it looks in relative good condition

All this is off of a 1984 19 II and I am pretty sure it had a bowsprit.  Do you guys think I will have any issues running the Jib and Storm jib without having a bowsprit.
The Main and Jib are original but they are in better condition then what I have.

Billy

Sweet!
Shouldn't have a problem using the foresails without a sprit.

What was he doing to the 19 that he doesn't need a mast???a troller???
1983 Com-Pac 19 I hull number 35 -no name-

Shawn

The forestay/luff length with the bowsprit is longer. The storm jib should be no problem. If it is a jib you ought to be OK as the jib likely isn't using the entire forestay length. The angles will be slightly off though. If it is a genoa that used the entire forestay you may have a problem fully hoisting the sail.

Billy,
He said that the 19 was in storage and for sale at a boat yard and the mast etc were stored in his barn. The owner of yard had permission to sell the boat for a certain price. Somebody came along and bought the boat without everything needed to actually sail it. He never met them.  I am not sure how long this stuff was sitting in the barn but he said the motor has not run in about 10 years.

My current Genny is in good shape I was only planning on using the Jib, Storm jib and main.  I attached a picture of the Jib clew. My current one has the Jib tack attached right to the grommet. The newer is a little different . The newer is a little different . if I where to use it I think the jib would ride up to high on the forestay

MacGyver

What size is the Genoa?  :D

nice score, wonder why the boat sold without the other stuff.....musta been a good deal

Mac,  I might be willing to sell the the genny. I want to first compare it to my current one and get some measurements. Let me know if you are interested

I did use the "newer" main sail today. it has a much better shape then my original main which is blown out and baggy. I did notice a few holes in it  though. I need to pick up some sail repair tape this week

Does anybody know if the winch on the mast is to use with a gin pole for raising it or for tightening the main halyard

MacGyver

Let me know the measurements, I have a 155 already, but might be interested in something between my 110 Jib and that 155 Genoa

Also, normally the winches on the mast are used for hoisting the main, odd place on a 19, but some like to go forward to do that..... I personally enjoy the lines running to the cockpit, no way to fall off the boat during rocking and bobbing around if you are sitting in the safety of the cockpit........ :D

Koinonia

have you looked into what it would cost to buy a bow sprit from compac, since you already have the rig for it id at least call!!!!  I was very surprised at how reasonable the teak bow sprit and pulpit for my 27 were the day after I snagged that power line that was hanging to low.

Mattlikesbikes

Hey Koinonia I just checked the Parts list and Com-Pac wants $570 for the Complete Bowsprit for a 19/II which is way more then I want to spend especially since I paid only $150 for everything I listed above Plus gas and my time  ;D
