re installing the rub rail

That could be the same thing that was happening to mine. I ended up sanding and buffing with 1000 grit paper.

It worked for the year  ;D

Then I repainted it now (in progress)

Good morning Gentlemen Sailors
Today is a new day and I have now newborn streaks...The water definitely originates from acumulation between rubrail and hd joint,leaking down the hull after crossing over or under the cove stripe picking up somewhere a brownish shade...When I wipe of the water from the surface of the hull, I remain with a dry hull and dry brown streak unsensitive to any popular cleaning agent.
What ever I would do on the hull to erase the ugly result, I would have newborn streaks the day after, so need to first identify the cause....Although the bolts tru HD joint should be ss, could they rust and cause this mess

Any comment really welcome

I doubt very much that the bolts are to blame. Between my two Com-Pac renovation projects I have removed two 1988 rub rails and over 200 bolts, and have not seen a rusty one yet.

I recommend you replace the rub rail with the original ($3.21/ft) version from Hutchins. It's an awkward job that requires two people, but not an expensive or difficult one. The new rail makes a surprisingly big improvement n the looks of the boat.

I just removed the bolts from 3 different areas and they are baby clean.Ordering frm Compac full set of rubrail definitely would be a nice improvement but not sure about the brown streaks.Maybe when I go in Clearwater some day I could roll them up in my suitcase and explain Mr custom man in Canada that I never travel without my rubrails...I need to find out for sure what causes that brown leak...
