A little over a year ago we bought a used CP-23 and I have been poaching your site since than! We renamed her "Snodaze" and she was moored in Mallets Bay on Lake Champlain in Vermont. We had a wonderful summer sailing as often as we could, boat was just what we were looking for. However now that I have a boat that can go to weather at 65 mph I will be looking for launch ramp advice as trailering is all new to me. Thought it best to say hello before I hit the help forum. Cheers, Will

Welcome Will!  Poaching is encouraged, opinions are free and surprisingly, they are often worth more than that.  Now that you have surfaced watch out for Bob23, you will likely receive an "initiation fee" bill from him. Humor him, he's old so he'll forget if you ignore it.:D Search and if you can't find it, ask.

Hi will,  welcome to the forum.   It is great to hear about someone on lake Champlain with a 23.   We have been sailing ours on Barnegat bay in jersey the last two seasons.   I don't have a trailer or a vehicle that could pull one for that matter.   But,  the goal for the upcoming season is to repair the damage from sandy and then head north to Champlain where we hope to keep the boat for the next few years.    I am planning on a month or so for the trip.

I just picked up the small boats publication from wooden boat.   In it they list Champlain as one of their top ten destination for small boats.   That was great to read!
I'm anxious to see pics and to hear about your experiences last summer.   We intend to keep the boat in port henry NY.      Where are you located?    Jt

Hi Will and welcome!
Please ignore Brackish as he suffers from bouts of outatouchwithreality-ness. Normally I charge about 5k for membership here- hey, boat parts ain't cheap! but if your'e a friend of Bracks, well, I'm afraid it's gonna be double that.
But you seem like a nice guy and with Christmas around the corner, I'm feeling in a very cheerful mood. (nope, haven't started hitting the rum yet). In an effort to foster good cheer, I'm gonna waive all initition fees today only! So, Welcome!
I have a 1985 23/2 who calls Southern NJ as her home waters.  If you ever find yourself down this way, you have a standing invitation to sail with us.
We look forward to you anti-poaching this site. Now that you've poached more than you probably care to admit, I'm sure youv'e got much material for contributions.  Don't make me call my Uncle Guido!

Welcome Will,

We used to travel to your neck of the woods when my son lived near Burlington.  It is beautiful country up there.  Suzie and I live just south of Albany and we have been trailering our Eclipse to our destinations.  Most of the time last summer we ended up in Saratoga Lake but we did venture as far as Seneca Lake. Saratoga Lake is a relatively small lake but at last count we have seen a Com-Pac 16, a Sun Cat, an Eclipse and a 23 on the lake.

Lake Champlain is on our list of places to sail next season.  Port Henry is about a 3 hour drive for us.  When JT gets settled on Champlain maybe we can arrange a get together.

Enjoy the forum.  They are a great bunch of folks here...even Bob23.   :)

Glad you're not dropping raw egg into boiling water anymore.  It pollutes the water.

PS.  My initiation fee, a mere $10 is most certainly NOT waived. I'm looking forward to the fine beer it will buy.

Your gonna enjoy the run up the Hudson & canal. I did it north ta south about 10 years ago. About a dozen locks in canal all user friendly. You will drop mast just so. of Albany and up when entering lake, dock w/manual crains both ends. My mooring field is about 55 miles north of Port Henry on Vt. side. Next summer we should meet on lake. Cheers Will

thanks for that upbeat reply!   that is part of what makes this forum so great.   I spent  a weekend  at anchor  in september with bob and marty, two interesting, fun guys whom i never would have met  had it not been for  a sick day 2 and a half years ago when it dawned on me that  i was at a point in my life when it was the right time to buy a sailboat and pursue some dreams that date from early childhood!

i can't wait to begin the trip, and it will be fun to meet up with you at some point next summer.    i have a daughter in johnson vt  and a son in nh.  I am hoping that taking the boat up there will mean more opportunities to spend time with them and to share  the joys of sailing  on the lake with them.    jt

In the middle of last summer, I purchased a CP19, and sail it on Lake Champlain as well.
Reading that Will is also a LC'er, I had to sign up!

The CP19 is the best sailing little boat that I have owned so far, even my wife isn't afraid of it (that says a lot!).

Hope to see you on the lake this coming year, Will!
I was a couple of slips away from a 23 at the Burlington Boat House this past summer, could it have been you?

Sure could have been, dark green hull? I overnighted there about 8 times this past summer. In my opinion its the best stop on "the west coast of new england" Where's home port for you? Cheers Will

Will-
Yes, that must have been you! On the side dock, with the Ethan Allen going back and forth behind us.
It is the best stop in the area, I agree!

I live in Waterbury, and up until the CP19, kept my boats at Point Bay Marina. Now I just go to the Coast Guard ramp, and sail in the broad part of the lake. MUCH better than down in the narrow end. I do overnight in Kingsland and Converse Bays, though.

Are you doing the trailer or marina thing?
