Ahoy

We picked up the boat!   1100 miles.  Albuquerque to Norman Oklahoma and back.  The whole process went great. Good people in Oklahoma. I'm very excited.  Needs cleaning to determine what really needs to be done, but hull is sound with hardly a scratch above the water line.  I call it the barn find until we get a name for her.  I purposely did not ask if it had a name so I can feel free to give her one.    Can't wait to get my hands dirty,.....and wet.  Got a good price i think, and the seller was a great guy.  Threw in an old motor as well.  I've never owned a motor....

Here she is.  That's my first mate Sarah.

Congratulations,

Your going to enjoy the time you spend with her on land as well as on the water.

I just like tinkering around on my boat when I cant sail.

If i cant sail, I can sit on board and dream a bit!

Congratulations!

I know the feeling.  I got my 25 year old boat a couple of months ago.  With schedule conflicts and other more pressing items in the house, I did not have a chance to get the keel wet until after the temperatures dropped. Now the Winter doldrums. This was probably a good thing because all my spare time was spent learning all the bits and pieces of the boat. The previous owners of my boat did not have access to a marine store and when something was accidentally dropped overboard or broken, Ace hardware supplied the replacements.  Caution: hardware store look alike standing rigging does not have the strength of the original marine equipment. My standing rigging is now back to full strength and the running rigging runs smoothly through the blocks. I also got to redo the brightwork and figure out how to rig the electronics: I have two batteries plus a light weight jumper battery that can be used independently or together and be charged singularly or together on the boat by shore line or solar. (Electric iron wind.) I am really glad that my "Slow Dancing" C16 has had a few upgrades, redesigns, and several coats of wax.  Further improvements will likely occur around Christmas . . . now that I understands the old gal's needs. I can not wait until Spring; maybe a trip to Florida on the new axle for the first launch!

Best wishes for fair winds,
Dave

Nice find, I think you will love the CP16!  I just picked mine up earlier this year, and we love it!  Great little boat, easy to launch, sail, and I've found mine very forgiving of my lack of experience.  I love the shallow draft, I can't even take my larger boat to my families lake in Canada.  I don't think I could even get it off the trailer.  In contrast we can take the compac into any of the coves and explore, swim, snorkel, etc...  I could probably beach it if I wanted.  Post up some more pics when you can, mine was borderline of a basket case when I got it, thankfully the boat itself was still solid after years of neglect, and most of it has turned out to be cosmetic repairs.  Enjoy it!
