Pointer for raising the main all the way..

-clean the mast track with a q-tip and your favorite spray cleaner (without bleach).  Rinse well with water and dry with a rag. I like to use acetone on this wipe as it gets the track spotless. Do this every season. Also make sure nothing is stuck towards the top, like remnants of birds nests or dodo.
-Lube this track with "sailcote" (use this on all blocks too--and top of mast rollers and anything that swivels or moves. Again, every season.
-Make sure the halyard splice or knot is not encumbering raising it all the way. If so, I suggest a pre-made halyard with a tight splice.
-Make sure the slug on the boom that fits into the mast slot is free of burrs, is clean and lubed.
-Loosen main sheet and boom vang, if you have one, as well as the downhaul.
-Make sure the sail slugs are also free or burrs, are clean and lubed.  If you have a bolt rope luff, clean and lube it (sailkote won't hurt the sail material)
-Point into the wind before heaving the line.

Should go up very easily and fully if these items are followed.
