Great way to move the trailer - front bumper hitch

I thought I would share a pic of the way I have of parking my '83 16.  I'm not very good at backing it up.  A friend of mine made a front bumper for my 2000 Cherokee, and I had him add a front 2" receiver.  I just back the trailer into the driveway, then disconnect, swing the Jeep around, and hook onto the trailer with the front hitch.  I park the trailer along the side of the house, and it's hard to back it into place.  Looking forward like this, I can usually get it in place on the first try.  Backing up - it used to take me half a dozen attempts.

Yep I agree.

Note: If your pulling stumps with the typical light duty automotive automatic 'transmixer', that little spur gear that allows reverse is the weakest link in the whole gear train.

And that is what shears off the idler shaft that that gear spins on when heavily used in reverse.

Pulling when backing up, or pushing in 'go forward' is OK. Don't exceed common sense and recommended towing pounds. No tree stumps or pulling down buildings.

But one needs to pratice backing up with mirrors only. And not cheating by looking over your shoulder.

I'll suggest a hint. Once backing S L O W L Y with a trailer has started, never stop. If you do you don't know where the trailer is.

I'm bad at backing up. My buddy laughs at me and says I back-up " like old people copulate. " I have no idea what he's talking about.

We tow these things around the shop with a front end, articulated, loader.  And use lots manually operated of  4" x 4" 'Whooa Sticks' on the trucks. That's 130 to 140 ton cored fiberglass bare bones hull. skippy is in the hoody.

This is 150 foot twin engine Sport Yacht, but being aluminium barley tips 104 ton bare hull.

Once in a while when the purchaser wants to go 50+ knots we slip in another V-16 4000kW diesel. Tanks are 65,000 U.S. gallons. Or $250,000 to fill her up.

MacGyver

At our Marina every vehicle/tow tractor has a front hitch, makes it awesome moving small to big boats around and much better control squezzing it into tight places.
I am planning on putting one on my truck so I can move the boat to the back yard and hide it behind the garage for the winters. :)
