What I like about Bay Springs Lake....

...no development and hundreds of fingers and coves off the main lake with water deep enough to tie up to a tree and step off to the bank.   Two nights ago on an overnighter up Five Fingers in Blue Flower Cove:




What I dislike about Bay Springs Lake.  No development, so there are no nice dockside grills to sail to and have drinks and a bite to eat.

Guess you can't have everything.

A beautiful boat in a peaceful setting.  This is exactly why Brenda and I love sailing.

Yes, I drop a stern anchor if I'm overnight to keep a wind shift from taking me broadside to the bank.  First picture shows a line to the anchor.  The bank to my stern is only about twenty yards away and both banks are high so very well protected.  Since there are no tides to deal with, fairly hard to get in trouble.  My depth was reading 4.5 feet with the transducer located about even with the front of the keel.  About 7 at the stern.

Rumsey's cruising guide of the Tenn-Tom system also includes Bay Springs Lake.  The particular spot I'm in is an all five location.  Fives for protection from current, wind, tow boat activity and beauty/interest.  Probably a couple of dozen all five coves on Bay Springs lake.

Although slick calm when I took the pictures, I was fortunate enough to be able to sail right up to the cove, but had to motor in circles out in the finger waiting for a bass fisherman to troll by the entrance.  He didn't catch anything, but I caught three nice largemouth bass the next morning casting from the boat.

thanks for the info!  looks like a great place to cruise..   one of my dreams is to tackle the great loop at some point - maybe in sections - so, who knows, perhaps we will be cruising through the Tenn-tom at some point in the future.   jt

ok Brack, one more question..     the size for your lettering for the boat name  -  any idea of the height of the letters?    your lettering looks very proportionate with the boat.  i am getting ready to order some lettering so that we can give Adagio her proper name..   any thoughts that you have would be appreciated.. thanks!  jt

Not sure, be glad to measure the next time I'm up there, but might not be for a couple of weeks.
