Evening All.  Been lurking around and reading the board for several months now and decided to finally join in the discussion.  Figured I should say "Hello" before jumping into other discussions by surprise.

My wife and I are currently the proud owners of a 1983 Com-Pac 16 which we purchased last summer.  We got a few sailing trips in last year and I'm eagerly awaiting spring.   So far we sail primarily at Jordan Lake although I have intentions on "graduating" to sail east around Oriental in the Neuse river and the surrounding Pamlico sound.

Figured a picture is a good addition to a first post, so I've attached the following from what will probably be my only foray on Harris Lake.  It's a nice little lake, but the wind can be easily blocked and there's only one boat ramp which gets quite busy during the summer.  In case anyone was wondering, yes the jib in the picture is too big for the boat.  She came with a new set of sails and I had to send the jib back - I think the issue was that the new sails were really for a Mark II.  While this didn't affect the main, the jib was a different story.  I've got the new one now which is a much better fit - I just don't have any pictures of it (yet).

Welcome.  Nice looking Com-Pac 16.  That is the biggest bimini I have seen on a 16.  Boom gallows too.  Certainly not your typical 16.  Enjoy your baby and keep us up on your adventures.

Could be just perspective, but the boom looks really long (mainsheets angle is opposite what is expected).  Mainsail looks large too.  Or so they appear anyway.
At first I thought it was a sun cat with jib there for a second.

Hi Joe - I'll see you out on Jordan sometime. We sail our 19 there pretty often, including this past Thursday when it was 72 with ten knots of wind. I've seen three or four 16s on Jordan over the past year so we have the makings of a mini Compac fleet. We usually launch at Vista Point.

Oriental is great - we've been twice this past fall and loved it. Check out www.towndock.net to get a flavor of the town.

Hope to see all you folks out there as well - Seems to be well known that Vista Point is the best place to launch for sailboats at Jordan. 

Salty19 - I think it might be a matter of perspective in regards to the boom/mainsail.  I was sailing downwind wing and wing at the time the picture was taken.

Welcome.  I just got a '83 16 last summer as well - first boat ever.  I got in about six sails before it got too cold here in Michigan.  Can't wait to get back out.

My fiancee and I launched our 1991 Com-Pac 16 for our maiden voyage in December 2010 on Jordan Lake.  We were the only sailboat out that day as it began to snow!  We sailed back to the launch ramp with a dusting of snow on the deck.  My fingers got pretty cold buttoning everything up in the cold.  We sailed Jordan Lake four times before we got married and moved to Florida.  These stable, trailerable boats go wherever we do.  I know that you will continue to enjoy your boat.  Welcome to the forum!

Hello everyone!

          I will be at Jordan Lake with my 16 from time to time this Spring and Summer!  I live about an hour and half away. 
Beware,  I am a greenhorn.   I love to learn though. 
There is a small lake here in my area that I hope to hone my skills on, Blewett Falls Dam.

there are some mountain lakes in the western part of the state.    i could welcome you to lake james/morganton which is pretty good for sailing and camping.

Forecast for this Sunday afternoon on Jordan is 63 degrees, 0% chance of rain, 12 knots wind. If that turns out to be true, I'll be at Seaforth ramp around 1:30 pm (assuming Vista Point is still closed for the "winter"). Sea trials for my new whisker pole! Maybe see some of you there.

Welcome to the forum, Joe. And, welcome to the world of CP. I, too, got my first "real" sailboat last July. Got a few sails in on local lakes, the Delaware River and Barnegat Bay, NJ before it got too cold. Trailer sailoring is great! We had an extended Spring here in PA & NJ. Matter of fact, I'm not sure if Winter ever did arrive?

I'm sure that you'll really enjoy your CP16. Does she have a name yet? Pegasus is a 1981 CP16 and has been a hoot to sail. Great stability and enough room to stay out all day and then some. Your boat really looks great. Hopefully, you can share some info re the Bimini and Boom Gallows.
