The light on the bow does have a block of wood under, but the ports are actually brass (I think), needing a good cleaning.  Thanks for the info on the hull number. I will be buying the plywood today in the afternoon, best I can tell the stock plywood is 5/8" and I can only find 5/8" AB plywood at one of the local big box supply stores (Menards) A means A grade face and B is B grade on the under facia.  This probably will do, but still considering moving up to a 3/4" Birch, Louan, Maple or Oak.  My dad says that I would be okay with 1/2" but I would rather not go with less than the manufacture's specs and would rather go a tad overboard than under because the wood adds to the overall strength and stability of the boat.  However the added weight of a thicker piece of hardwood might not be that great either.  Anyway probably will be a last minute decision and I am probably over thinking this.. Hope I make the right decision.

I would go with the thicker plywood.

It probably won't add a lot of weight and the extra weight will be located low in the boat where it will add to stability.

Good project.  Keep us informed.

Cheers,
