Hey all,

Walter here. Thought I would jump in and introduce myself since I have lurked for a while. I am not a Com-Pac owner yet, but am actively searching for a decent used boat. I currently own and sail a Hobie 16 catamaran so I guess you could say I am coming over from the dark side. I'm sure there would be some debate about that anyway depending on who you asked. As a matter of fact, my only sailing experience is on a Hobie cat, but I have reached the point where I am ready to sit back and have a relaxing sail and just enjoy being on the water. Hobies are all about speed and the adrenaline rush from flying a hull while trapped out clicking along at 16 knots smashing through the waves. I have actually NEVER sailed a monoslug......er.......hull. LOL! (Sorry, some of that Hobie talk coming out).

At any rate, I have been searching for quite some time and doing a good amount of research and have decided that a Com-Pac 19 is what I am looking for. Other boats have made my shortlist, but the 19 is tops. I have looked at 2. One owner decided not to sell right away. The second needed a little more cosmetic work than what I was willing to do at this point, plus a repaired mast. It was well within my affordable range. Who knows, I may go back and see if it is still available. After all, I do love to tinker and work on things. Something about the pride one exudes knowing that the beautiful boat in front of you was refurbished by your own hand.

On a final note, if anyone is aware of a decent Com-Pac 19 for "sail", I would appreciate a heads up. Ideally this boat would be within a days drive of NE Texas and not need a lot of work. I am ready to take the plunge.......well, maybe that's not the correct terminology, but you get my gist.

So, thanks for letting me take up some bandwidth and hope everyone haves a great day!

good luck with the search!   it will be interesting to see what you end up with - be sure to submit pics as soon as you find your boat!  jt

Stay on the craigslist and Sailing Texas sites, that's how I found both of mine.
And welcome to the group.

Welcome, and good luck with your search.

You don't have to apologise for your past.  A few of us finally attained that age where being catapulted from the trap during a pitchpole ceased being fun.:)

Forgive me, but while flying a hull, is not a Hobie cat just a Mono(slug)hull with a lot of deadweight ballast unable to point windward? :>}

Welcome to going hull speed fast.  You'll love the continued high initial stability of a 19.

I have beautifull 2006 Eclipse 21 up for sale............

The Eclipse took the place of the 19.

Welcome, Walter.  Good luck with your find.

Com-pac 19's, and most monoslugs (lol!) are indeed fairly slow compared to catamarans.  Things happen slower with more room for error and more time to complete tasks (such as sheeting and tacking).

Stability is extraordinary on the CP19's due to ballast and the flat hull shape. You will not spill your drink on this boat in good conditions.
Sounds like you made an informed decision.

Check out the classified section here for boats for sale as well as the links above.  A user here "Greene" is selling his CP19 for a good price in Wisconsin, granted that's a haul.  I can personally vouch for this boat having seen it in person on multiple occasions...excellent shape, nicely done modifications and needs very little TLC, if any. It will be worth the drive.  I drove about 1700 miles round trip to get ours (check out the link in my sig for pics).

Also know that only 624 CP19's were made from about 1982-2002.  Therefore total supply is on the short side; nicely maintained examples are in much smaller numbers.   So when you find a real nice one for a price you can afford, grab it!

Welcome Walter:
Here you'll find both kinds of people: Compac owners and those who wish they were. We saw you lurking in the shadows and are glad you have moved over from the dark side.
Looking forward to hearing of your adventures!

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. I do keep an eye on sailingtexas and craigslist every evening. I did notice the boat in Wisconsin and it looks nice judging by the pics posted. I am a VERY patient person, so I do not mind waiting for the right boat to come along. In the meantime, I will keep reading advice on this forum and learning all I can learn about monohull sailing. Y'all have a great day!!
