some projects

Too hot and still to sail here so I'll post a few projects that, for the most part, I've stolen the ideas from others on the site.

Sewing projects:

Got the ideas and inspiration for these from Salty19, however, modified mine to some extent.  Lifeline cushions are relatively easy, functional as a back rest if you are up on the coaming and really dress up your boat.  I priced this style, Sunbrella with a PVC core, foam body and drawstrings on the end.  For a pair of seven foot cushions they would have been well over a hundred bucks delivered.  I have about fifteen bucks worth of stuff in these.

Tiller cover.  My tiller has a tiller pilot bracket on it so the cover was a little more complicated.  The forward part is just a sewn tube, the aft part is a wrap with Velcro sewn along the bottom to close that section and a slot for the tiller pilot bracket to stick out.

Ladder rung cushions.  Think I stole this idea from BobK but not sure.  Pipe insulation with Sunbrella wraps with Velcro.  The red at the ends are additional Velcro strips to help hold them closed.  Much easier on the foot, the Admiral is happy, and less costly and complicated then teak steps.

Line organizer:  got this one from Mike Greene.  Mine is attached to the bulkhead that separates the cockpit locker from the main cabin port settee instead of the cockpit locker seat.  Hmmm, see from the picture one of the loops is attached to the wrong ball.  Hooking by feel rather than sight.  The large line to the right is for my extra anchor and the anchor straddles the centerline of the boat.  I'll add a couple of blocks and straps to keep it in place.

I really like your line organizer. On my 1985 CP-23 that bulkhead doesn't go all the way up like yours does. If it did I might have to make a similar organizer for my boat as well.

I'm new on this forum and really appreciate all the useful info I've been finding.

Gee, Brack:
I'm not that organized, I guess. All my spare lines are stored in a milk crate in the port cockpit locker. Not pretty, but I can store a lot of line in there. I also have a plastic joint compound bucket for the 100' of 1/2" line for the lunch hook. It seems to naturally flake itself into the bucket so does not get tangled.
Maybe this winter I'll hang my lines like a civilized man should.
T:
   What is your hull#? My 1985 is # 321.

Bob23,

I think my hull # is 358. Does that sound reasonable? Would they have produced enough 23s to fill in between your 321 and my 358?

I like your idea about the anchor rode being flaked into a bucket. I recently soaked mine in some water and fabric softener and was contemplating how I would store the pile of rope in the boat. The line is still too stiff to coil up nicely.

Nice jobs! I like the tiller cover. I will have to do something similar as I the same bracket and a TillerLock on top of the tiller.

Is that line organize on the port side? On that side the PO bolted a storage crate to the bulkhead. I have a peg line organizer above the battery on Serenity.

If it is for a primary anchor you might not want to try and coil the rode. If you ever need to deploy the anchor in an emergency that will be the time the coil gets knotted up. Just letting the rode drop as it may into a bucket/bag/chain locker minimizes the chances of it binding up when you feed it out again.

BassPro used to have a nice anchor bag for little money ($13ish) but it doesn't appear they still carry it. I use one of them for my lunch hooks rode which is 200' of 3/8" and 6' of 5/16 chain and that just fits in.

Yes, on the port side.  The starboard already had two batteries up against the bulkhead, a guest charger and battery selector switch on the bulkhead and I added a hose bib and keep a self coiling hose and nozzle in there.  A little crowded.  I wanted to keep the port hatch area clear for getting large items in and out.  I keep a bag of fenders, extra sails, and a bag of life preservers in that area so wanted the lines and spare anchor out of the way but accessible.  Plan to epoxy some blocks with straps to secure each of the aforementioned items so they won't slide around in there.
