Hi Com-Pac-ers.. and thank you for letting me join your group.. Started as a ragman  but have been a stink potter for 20 years and now looking to get back into sailing. Looking around for a cp19.. Somewhere here on the Gulf Coast if possible as I live in New Orleans.
Regards, Capi

Welcome aboard.

Where are the rest of you swabs, give this man a well deserved welcome. Anybody looking for a CP19 can't be all that bad.

Greene

Welcome.  You'll have to do a bit of searching to find a good 19, but it is definitely worth the work.   Good luck on your search.

Hey, Capi:
Welcome to the site! Before you stooped to the depths of stink potting, what did you sail? Any reason your'e looking for a 19 instead of any of the other fine Compac yachts? There must be plenty of used 16's around...I think they made many more of them.
We look forward to hearing of stories about your boating adventures...or misadventures!

Hi CPers.. thank you for the Welcomes..!!
Ahh, the joys of sailing.. Once upon a time.. Here on Lake Pontchartrain.. Prams, Fish Boats, Lightings, and assorted Rags my dad owned.  Then job, family, wife, kids, home..know may know the drill.. not enough hours.. all boating on hold for a bit... then power boats for many years.. Looking now for a simpler boat for both day outings and then some 2-3-4 nite cruising.. thus a 19 instead of a 16.. but not larger as our New Orleans Municipal Yacht Harbor is still not rebuilt since Katrina.. Have a spot to keep a 19, but not much larger.. c'est la vie.. The CPs look like the right quality and size.. so I'll just keep looking around for one..Getting it down here without too much effort is the current challenge. But, No hurry .. Capi

Welcome Capi and good luck with your search for a 19.  It would be a great boat for your intended purpose.

Gulfport (MS) small craft harbor just opened after a complete rebuild from Katrina.  There are several others on the coast that are open now that you might consider if you can handle being that far away from your boat.  I'm anticipating a move back, currently living in north Mississippi.  Lived in Biloxi/Gulfport for most of my life, and had some happy times in NO during my misspent youth.:)

Capi

Hi Brackish,
yes, love that Gulf Coast.. and have noticed the new harbor.. but too far as I normally spend at least one or two days a week on the boat.
That said, if you come across any 19s for sale, I would appreciate the tip. PNELSON42@gmail.com.  I am looking at the Texas Sailing each week. Lots of boat on this listing !! whew !!

Confused about the title of the craigslist posting -if that's really a 1980 boat, it's a genuine CP 19 and an early one at that. Not a Legacy, which is Hutchins current model that's approx. the same dimensions as the old CP 16.

That posting is WAY off.
The legacy is the 16 not the 19. The new 19s are called eclipses. Plus the boat in the photo is a 16 not a 19.

Doubt it has a centerboard being that it is a 1980 model. Also they used alum railings in 1980 they didn't use stainless until the mid 80s. Although it could have been replaced.

No stern arch in the photos either

Also, the boom tender quick rig? Doubt it has that too. Especially if the mast is standing vertically on the front of the trailer.

I think they just copied some text from the compac website.

The Eclipse is 20 feet 10 inches, usually revered to as a 21

Hi JoAnne.. and Others !!
Many thanks for the skinny on the boat.. Think I will pass.  Sorry you are moving on from your boat, she looks lovely.

Good afternoon!

Hello! No worries, but to clarify, my name is Jill.  "JParody"..... newbie, swabbie.... that's me.  I apologize for not having properly introducing myself to the group.

I have been reading for months!.  I thought I had my chance to be of service!!!  When I saw you looking for a 19 and saw the ad stating "ComPac 19 on craigslist, I pasted it in for you to see.
"JoAnn", whom I do not know and lives many states away, is the one who had the boat for sale and her name was simply part of the ad!
(Sorry the boat was not what you were looking for.)  I am so new to sailing and to boats in general! I do not know a 19 from an Eclipse, but I am learning!
We have had a canoe and kayaks for years!  :  )
My husband and I bought one of our sons a 1979 Catalina 25 swing keel in May of 2010.  We all diligently worked on it throughout last summer.  My son, (18 years old,) gained his  ASA 101, 103, 104 and docking certification over the last year.  I myself, this summer obtained my 101... the ink is still wet!
I have everything to learn and I love, LOVE sailing!  My "sweet"? My "Love"? ... my husband, Alex, of course.  My new found... ok, "love" if you will, "Puff", my 79' CP 16.!
Capi, Skip, Kickinbug, Greene,  ...all of you!!  Consider me - friend!

Welcome to the CPYOA Capi!

I've been a member for about a month now and have found this forum to be hugely helpful. Good luck on finding your 19. I've already been accused of having "three foot itus"! Even with the short time I've owned my CP16, I really love it. I think you are correct in wanting a 19 as the 16s cabin is a bit tight for extended cruising.

Yes, Jill:
We are very formal around here and require formal introductions! Yeah, that'll be the day!
Welcome to the site and we look forward to hearing of your adventures with "Puff". Where do you sail?
Nice to have a woman on board...kinda keeps us curmudgeony old wharf rats in line, if you know what I mean!

Capi,

This was just posted in the classifieds.

http://fortmyers.craigslist.org/lee/boa/2540413648.html

seems like a good deal but for the price I am guessing it needs some work. I am about two hours away and could go check it out for you. I also have a 19 so I know what to look for.

Let me know if you are interested.
