Does anyone have any news about Hitchhiker (Hitchhiker796 in Youtube) and his beautiful black SunCat "Mermaid", famous for Hitchhiker's contributions to this Forum and for the beautiful videos on his coastal sailing off Japan, which he uploaded to Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/hitchhiker796#p/u/5/YaASgu1DpiM)? His last contribution to Youtube was over a year ago.

No news, but I vaguely recall learning that he was from the southern part of Japan. I don't recall things that well any more, so I could be wrong. ;) Hope he and his boat are OK, but with everything going on in Japan right now I kind of doubt checking on sailing forums is high on the list. :(

My brother lived in Japan for 5 years studying pottery, and has not heard from his friends in Bizen. He has not tried to contact them, figuring that communications are probably jammed enough without his help.

I believe Hitchhiker has a new boat? If so, here is video that was posted yesterday. Sure looks like him?

Yes, thanks. I think that Hitchhiker797 (he used to be Hitchhiker 796) is definitely him. As 797 he has uploaded to Youtube many videos on his new SeaCraft Dana 24.

Well, I guess that if anyone were to upgrade from a Com-Pac 17 to a non Com-Pac design, a Seacraft 24 would be difficult to beat...

I could not help also noticing that he sails his Dana 24 as a cutter... always adding an extra foresail!

I wish him the best of lucks!

Hee hee! Click on the video views statistics. Most views came from cpyoa.geekworks. Video is most popular with males age 13-17.

That's us! ;)

Hi, there! Hitchhiker here.

As some of you may have noticed, I am sailing a second-hand Dana 24 now and keep posting sailing videos.
I really loved SunCat and still love it but I wanted to sail a bigger boat.
For me, acquiring sailing skills and self-sufficient ability is the love and charm of sailing.

Always love foresail

Thank you all!

There is no finer boat than a Dana 24 for it's small size as it's totally over built.
A couple of them around our area and I sailed up to a unfamiliar one hanging on a can, tied off, was invited aboard and talked to the two Britishers from Blackpool, England.
Yep clean across the pond.

skip. I like the little Smuggler 25 cutter on this photograph. Hold the Ctrl key down and tap the + key to enlarge the pic. The - key shrinks it back down.

I've been drooling over the Dana 24's for a while now.  I can't believe how much boat they packed into a 24' hull.  It is built like a tank and looks (at least to my eye) salty as they come.  All I need is about $40K to cure my mid-life crisis.  If B and I get to move down to Orange Beach we'll be doing some more serious looking at this wonderful boat.

Oh, by they way.  Be careful which Dana3 Youtube videos you click on.  There is at least one that I can't believe is passing the administrator's criteria.  She ain't no boat!

I think we all noticed! Good to see you are OK. We are all worried about what is happening in Japan.
