Moving to Dunedin

Ahoy

I've just signed a contract to sell my house here in NC and plan to retire to Dunedin.  My little ship sits on her trailer now and I need to find a place to store her while I get relocated.  I'm looking for cheap or free storage, in or out of the water for about a month.
If anyone knows of somewhere I can put my boat until I get moved, please let me know.

Bob,
I am currently keeping my boat at a friends house on a canal on Lake Tarpon (fresh water). It is about 10-15 minutes north of Dunedin. Currently my trailer is in my fenced in backyard. I'm thinking of pulling my 19 out for a cleaning and gulf sailing and I could mention something to my friend about moving your boat in for a little bit. It is in a great location, as far as being on the lake goes. It is protected and maybe 150-200 yards to open water. I know he won't be "thrilled" about haveing a stanger in his backyard but if you would be willing to pay a small fee I'm sure he would perk up to the idea really quick. Only thing is it's only about 2'6 deep right at the sea wall. How much does your boat draw?

OR I could move my trailer to my church and you could keep your boat on your trailer in my back yard. I got a pretty nice set up and a great guard dog. There is a boat ramp less than a 1/2 of a mile down the street from my house and I'm about 10 minutes from a public boat ramp north of Ozona if you want to get out in the salt.

You are welcome to use my driveway, I'm about halfway between your homes, near Atlanta.  Safe neighborhood, cul de sac street.   My 23 was parked there all last winter with no problems other than some leaves and pine needles.  If interested just give a shout.

Thanks for the reply, guys;
Billy:  I have sailed Lake Tarpon back in 2004 when I had my sweet little 16 cp.  I now have a Compac 23 and the draft is stated as 2'4" but with any weight it's probably a couple inches more.  That would be tight in your friends canal.
Jeff:  I really appreciate the offer...if I can't find a place to store the boat in Florida I may well take you up on that.

Here's my latest thots:  I think I'll put the boat in and anchor/moor in the Ozona/Crystal River/Dunedin area for a few weeks while I get transitioned.  There's a sailor on this site that is looking to use my trailor to do some out of water work on his boat, so that would work for him, too.  I hope to get a slip in the Dunedin Marina once I have a Dunedin address.   What do you all think about that?

Ahoy Compacers
We have finally landed in delightful Dunedin.  After selling our home in NC we set out to relocate to the sunny south.  5 weeks later we bought a small retirement home in Dunedin less than a mile from the Gulf.  I was able to get a slip at the Dunedin Marina with no problem.  That's where you'll find me if, in case, you're looking for me  :)

Yep, Compacville for sure down here.  There's about a dozen in the Dunedin Marina Fleet  :)

Dunedin is a very special place.  Be sure to take part in the downtown activities and take the time to drive or walk the street, actually a path along the water north of the motel by the marina -- very old Florida.  Don't miss the ginger bread houses in the old part of town. It is a beautiful little town in the big city.  We bound HideAway in the marina.   The best sailing waters are north of the Dundin causeway and Caladesi Island State Park was rated number one in the country a few years ago and it has a great marina back in the mangroves.  Almost out of season though.   Matt

Hi Matt, What does that mean? Me and my honey are looking in Dunedin now. Seems like a charming place. We found two really appealing properties on the web, near the marina, but they are both in contract! Hope we are not too late. ralph(rip)

The no see ums at Caladesi take over the marina in May and the summer heat/humidity are not far behind.  We usually wait until the sea breeze starts to sail or if we are on the boat overnight we take the land breeze back to AC and return after2 or so.

Hi Bob, welcome to the Tampa Bay area.

We usually like to drop our 1982 CP19 in Lake Tarpon as it is the best sailing we've had herabouts, and we have sailed all around the area from South Saint Pete to Weeki-Wachi. It's hard to believe the lake could support good wind, what with the shrouding from the trees all around it, but it does put up a good blow and the 9-mile long kidney-shaped lake is a bunch of fun to work on tack. In case you are interested, there are two sizable ramps, one at Anderson Park on the west side, and one at Chesnut Park on the south side. We do use a tongue extension on the trailer to make it down the ramp, but the angle is pretty steep and we completely submerge the bunks so moving the boat on and off the trailer is easy.

Perhaps we'll see you out and about sometime!

Take care,
Johann.

Thanks to all for the "warm" welcome to the sunshine state.  I'm currently enjoying the weather/water/wind/waves of St Joseph Sound, and occasionally wandering out Hurricane Pass.  Planning and plotting to go beyond the Dunedin Causeway and head to the northern islands of Three Rooker Bar and Anclote Key sometime soon.  Looking forward to some overnights and extended trips as soon as I can catch up on the "honey-do" list in our new home :)

Hope to see you on the water!!

Wow guy's! I live on Lake Tarpon and keep my 19 at my friends dock, often. Mostly she stays on her trailer though. And I just got back from Anclote Key this weekend. It was a beautiful day.

Bob & Johann,
I would love to meet up sometime and have a raft up. Either in the salt or the lake!
