Brenda and I wish all of you a happy and safe holiday season.

Here is some Christmas snow from our house for all you southerners to enjoy.  We had about 8" last night with 40 mph winds to create a real winter scene.

Getting it real heavy here in Clarksville, TN today Mike.  They cancelled church already tonight, and I'm sitting in front of the computer checking e-mail and playing the sailing simulator.  Gotta keep my hand in you know.

Mike:
Beautiful property and snow! I am tempted to be jealous of all that room!
We had a flurry or two today here in the South of NJ...does that count as snow? I didn't think so.

Thanks.  I built the house 14 years ago (every last nail) and it was a great place for the kids to grow up.  Now that the last kid is about to go off to college, we will probably sell it.  We are thinking somewhere in the next couple of years.  We really don't need 3500 sq ft for two of us and with 6 acres they are just taxing us out of the place.  Time to build a little house or move down to our condo in Orange Beach.

I'm a low maintenance kinda guy.  All I need is a Pacific Seacraft Dana (or Orion) and a shack down south.  Is that too much to ask for?  I hope Santa reads this forum.

Speaking of Santa, how's this...about two weeks ago my neighbor and I got the license plate # of somebody who shot a doe on my property from his truck and sped off. I found the deer the next morning - still alive but unable to move. Very upset I involved the police. The cop came to my house to get a statement. He was a nice young guy and was really amazed at the sailboats in the yard and pics and things in the house. He said, " I have a sailboat you can have - FREE!" Well I won't bore you with all the details, but it is now sleeping on it's trailer in my yard. The sails are in a bedroom(my admiral has her own house) and the engine(4 hp yamaha) is stored. At first I thought it was a Catalina 22, but after much searching and investigation discovered it is a 1972 Cal 21. Pretty Santa like, eh? It has a few problems, but instead of decorating a room in the house I will be working on my CP23 and the Cal21 when not watching heavy weather sailing on youtube. BTW, any info on Cal 21's would be greatly appreciated. (rip12477@gmail.com) Thanks and merrrrry Christmas/happy holidays to all, rip
PS. The shooter confessed and the fines are scary here in upstate NY. I'd feel bad, but i was walking in the field right behind that doe a half hour prior.

Know what you mean, Mike, facing the same dilemma.  Three sons grown and gone, house too big, shop too small, weather too cold (17F this morning).  After Sheri has her second eye surgery early next year we will be seriously looking for something smaller and more south.  Biloxi, Ocean Springs OK, South Alabama also good, I would like Apalachicola or Port St. Joe, FL, but I may have a debate on my hands with those choices.  Sheri's mother lives in Biloxi, so that is her first choice.

Merry Christmas to All! I certainly like you guys! You must be friendliest bunch on the net. As for a shack down south, if I ever get my condo in Florida, I will invite you to come down. We can beach all the Compacs (or Cals) in the front- and pitch in for groceries.

Happy Holidays to everyone, warm or cold!

Very cold here with about 4-5" snow. I'll take that over a blizzard anyday.

And a very Merry Christmas to all you fine gents from us here in NJ. Speaking of Santa, I've asked him for a 1966 Porsche 912 but he says the recession has hit him hard, too. Labor costs are up, the elves want to unionize so he's forced to cut back. Oh well; I don't really need another maintenance hogging machine in my life.
I had posted a photo here but I got some negative feedback through the pipeline so I have deleted it. I certainly don't want to offend anyone here although generally if someone is offended by my beliefs, well tough dung. But here at the site is not the place. I've promised to myself to do my part to make this an interesting place for all Compac-ers to hang out. So, if you viewed it already, good for you. If you didn't, well, it's not that big a deal anyway.
Happy sailing to all you guys with your boats still in the water. Winter is the season when I'm airchair sail instead. I just got done with an abridged version of Ernest Shackleton's 1916 rescue voyage from Elephant Island to South Georgia Island in a 21 foot boat. What a picture of endurance which, interestingly, was the name of his ship which was crushed in Antartic ice. If you get a chance to read the full version, it's well worth it. Sorry for the thread drift. And now back to our regularly scheduled program!

Merry Christmas!

We've had a bit of snow here in the northeast too.  Just drove home on Sunday from my sister's house in CT where they got close to two feet.  We just beat what was reported as blizzard conditions as we drove north ahead of the worst of it.

On the Cape we got nearly a foot last Monday but the blizzard that hit most of the northeast didn't really drop much snow here and it turned to mostly rain last night.  What we are seeing is mostly high winds, which is somewhat normal in winter.  Winds of 80 MPH were reported in Wellfleet via Ham radio ([url][http://www.wunderground.com/US/MA/South_Wellfleet.html/url]) and nearly 80 in Orleans.  Chatham Harbor got a reported over 70 (don't know how much over) and some wind damage and light coastal flooding at high tide.  Predictions are 35-50 tonight and 25-40 tomorrow and a balmy 32.  Needless to say the marine forecast is unfavorable.

Sorry no pictures.  We have some oak firewood on the ground to cut up in spring.  We took down ten pine trees last summer that were mostly dead and its a good thing we did.  There is a good chance that at least of few of them would not have stood up to this wind.

Regardless of the weather we had a great Christmas and hope you all did too.

The Great Blizzard of 2010 dropped about 15-20" here in NJ. I was tracking the storm closely as my daughter left yesterday to drive to Punta Gorda. She made it fine but it took longer. As it neared our locale, the gradients really tightened up. Then the little joker tried to double back on us for a re-run but in the end, decided to head up to see Curtis.
We have drifts of 3 to 5 feet here...very light and easy to shovel. No snow blower for this old fart...I prefer the workout. Winds gusted to over 40 easily and it continues to blow as I write this.
A wonderful and white day after Christmas.
