To all Com-Pac Owners  -

A Com-Pac cruising fleet was started at Lake Nockamixon in Quakertown, PA in 2009.   This past week, our 9th Com-Pac joined the Nockamixon Sail Club.  Did I mention that our sister fleet on the Lake is a member of the Catalina 22 National Organization.   They are Fleet 98 of the Catalina 22 Association.  So that got us thinking.......

Our fleet is now in the process of designing a fleet flag and we are planning to use #1 as our Com-Pac Fleet designation.  We talked to Rich Hutchins at the Annapolis Boat show about starting a fleet, and he gave us permission to use the Com-Pac logo on our flag.

I have two question for the CPYOA forum readers.

1) Does anyone know of a Com-Pac fleet in the US that is already using #1 ?
2) Are any other sailing clubs interested in starting your own Com-Pac fleet?

Our fleet is very new, but very passionate about sailing our Com-Pac's and would love to opportunity to sail and network with other Com-Pac fleets across the USA.  Please let me know if you are interested.

I'm in!

I live in Tampa Bay, FL. I'm really surprised we don't already have on here, w/ the factory being local and all.

Hi Sharon and John,

I just sent a note off to Rich from your fleet who responded to a post I made regarding my recent purchase of a Sun Cat.  My wife and I have been living in Doylestown for the past 5 years and have paddled often at Nockamixon.  I'm looking forward to putting the new boat in at the park and perhaps can boost your fleet to double digits.

Brian -

It was great to meet you at the new club House, the Talking Tea Cup in Chalfont, PA.   John and I have accepted the position of launch captains and will be "on deck" April 2nd and 3rd from 10 to 2.

Hope to see you there!!!

Thanks for head's up Sharon.  My boat is still waiting additional parts and installation at Marina in NJ so mid to late April looks like a more likely 1st launch date.  Look forward to seeing folks from the Tea Cup on the water.

Sorry we missed meeting you Brian, and seeing you and John and some of the other fleet members again Sharon. Darlene and I attended an engagement party for our niece on the evening that many of you met at the Talking Tea Cup.

Our 16 is just about ready for launch. The only remaining requirement aside from my getting familiar with the rigging and raising and lowering the mast and such is to get the registration letters on along with all of the appropriate PA and NSC stickers.

I would love to launch next weekend, and maybe I will, but for the moment am thinking I should play it safe and spend the weekend removing the shrink wrap and getting used to the rigging and all and then launch the following weekend. We shall see if I have that much patience... <grin>

Anyway I will be in touch with you and John for scheduling launch assistance as soon as I am more certain of my schedule for the next two weekends. Thanks for being "Launch Captains" this year!

--> Nope.

I think the fleet is too small for this.
A few here. A few there. Kind of scattered about the world.

Lets think about the boat for a second. These Com-Pac Yachts. A full blown racing sailor or a weekend warier are not going to wring the most out of these boats speed wise.

It's not going to do much good to hang $60,000 worth of sails and gear on these boats as "It just ain't gonna happen." And that's why I believe there shall not be a 'Brand specific fleet'. Your not going to see these guys racing in the Olympics like dad's Star Boat class was.

Skip1930,

Why all the negative diatribe regarding the formation of a Com-Pac Fleet somewhere?

I don't believe you fully understand what the concept of having a designated "Fleet" of Com-Pac Sailboats in a geographical location means to most of the Owners of those Com-Pacs concerned. You just don't get it!

"Why all the negative diatribe regarding the formation of a Com-Pac Fleet somewhere?"

No No. Don't think of my views as being negative as much as realistic. I just don't see, hear, feel, or sense any urgency to do this fleet formation.
For me, I don't have the money, nor do I see the rewards if I was to be in the fleet. And my season is almost six months.
No big deal.

I'm a member of Com Pac Fleet #1 on Lake Nockamixon.  The purpose is not to race.  We're just a group of Com Pac owners who are proud of our boats and enjoy the occasional raft up, midnight sail, etc. on the lake.  The sail club we belong to, Nockamixon Sail Club, has a racing branch and a cruising branch.  The cruising branch has several different fleets, including Com Pac, Catalina, Precision, etc..  It's just good fun, pure and simple!

Years ago, ok a decade or two there used to be a fleet 1 in Dunedin or at least that is where they seemed to race the most.  Mostly 16s .   I won second place in the only organized Compac regatta known to have been held at Boca Ciega Yacht Club in Gulfport Fl 1998.
