It is a long way till winter where I live, however, I find that procrastinating is much easier if I go about it in an organized manner.  Without a list, I often don't even know that I am procrastinating for I cannot remember the projects. Therefore I have made up my list for the coming winter so that next Spring I will be fully cognizant of how successful I have been able to procrastinate:

ComPac 23 winter projects:

New Stuff

1.   Install hardware to lead asymmetrical halyard, chute scoop control line and tack line back to the cockpit to help with single handling.

2.   Install a quick pin with a lanyard to replace the sail stop in the mast.  Quicker on a reef and less likely to be dropped overboard.

3.   Convert to mid-boom sheeting with adjustable traveler.

4.   Make a teak hinged fuel locker cover that has brackets in the front for a cantilevered cockpit table.

5.   Make a stowable table (see above) that can be used either in the cockpit or in the cabin.

6.   Make a hinged drop down shelf that will drop from the port cabin bulkhead where an insulated jug with spigot can be secured for quick and easy access to a days worth of cold drinking water for longer cruises.

7.   Install red LED night vision lights in the cabin

8.     Quit fretting about it and drill that hole for the through hull fitting to finish the bilge pump installation

9.     Design and build new mast crutches for the bow and stern pulpit that are light weight and quick install.

10.   Make up designated lines with quick guy line adjusters to secure the mast for travel.

11.   Build a telescoping whisker pole.

Related projects:

1.   Build the Bateau FS 14 skiff, transfer the 23's 9.9 hp to the skiff and install a Sail Pro 6 on the 23.

Maintenance:

1.   Put one coat of Bristol on all of the exterior teak.

2.    Put a coat of anti-fouling on the bottom (late Spring)

3.    Clean and repack the trailer bearings and hubs.

What's on your list?

I am from South Florida so my Winter list goes more like this;

1. Sail down to the Keys for a week.

2. Sail to Biscane Bay for a long weekend.

3. Try to get two weeks off to get over to the Bahamas.

4. Repeat projects 1 thru 3 as many times as possible.

Summer time (now) is when it is too hot to sail and I try to get the projects done.... Putting davits on now, and just finished an engine re-power.

I started planning my list awhile back and really need to get started before it grows even longer...

My winter list follows:

Install new CDI Furling gear
Install new Ida sailor rudder
Install rigging for new Loose footed main sail
Install rigging for new Spinnaker
Replace standing rigging
Install new boom vang
Cetol  all wood
Install new scupper drains
Paint bottom, hull, and cabin
Rework / upgrade trailer rollers
Install new  trailer winch strap
Install new trailer lights
Check wiring
Install 12 volt receptacle outlet
Recover  cushions

To funny..... Jimyoung, makes me envious...enjoy the balmy South Florida winter, good luck with number 4, I hope you get to repeat it many times. Cheers mates

I want to redo everything it seems (sigh!). The boat was sound but very scruffy when I started.

finish scraping hull
grind out and patch pox
sand, seal and paint whole hull
replace rotting wood in cabin
rewire
patch various paraphenalia holes made by previous owners in cockpit
grind out and refinish stress cracks topsides
paint topsides
buy & install an ida rudder
replace sloppy outboard kicker with heavy duty
service water pump and carb on outboard

This will take some time because once work is over I'm only able to concentrate on being productive for 8  minutes.

I bought a boat like that (abeit much bigger) the list is worth it and it does end. I love sailing a boat I have redone. It is so rewarding (so keep at it! :))

Once again replace the heat exchanger. The one Jim Young was nice enought to send my way sprung a leak. I might be able to braze up the end cap, we'll see. Broke down and bought a new one anyway. Othe than that just the usual clean up, wash/wax, oil teak and put her to bed.

jimyoung

Sorry to hear that it started leaking.... Good thing the price was right (:P  ...... After 20 years in the salt it must have "freaked out" in all that fresh clean mountain water!

Caboose

Install/change mounting points for the "Sheet to Tiller Steering" system.
Check, repair, replace, sand, paint, varnish as needed on boat/trailer/motor.
Dream, drool, wish, for next season.
Study the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing.

Quite the lists!

Surprising I'm short on lists this year.  Aside from routine maintenance and cleanup, big thing are cockpit cushions, will make them ourselves. Will endeavor to make a few other canvas items. Mini bimini? Boom tent? both?   Hmm..still need to raise the jibsheet cam cleats off the coaming a bit more. Install the forespar tiller lock boxes.   LED bulbs for nav.  Some minor electronics/rewiring and maaaybe a solar panel.

If I feel frisky one weekend I'll mount up a spot light below the sprit.  Have some real powerful HID aircraft lights laying around that would serve as effective an fishing and pontoon boat repellent and dispersement aid. :)

I have thought about putting a orange flashing light half way up the mast....
(they are used on nuclear submarines) :))

If you sail near New London CT you might really see a nuclear submarine.  A friend of mine has and apparently the prop wash kicks up quite a wake.

No winter list here yet. I'm still sailing and grinning! But I guess I should start thinking about it at least. The usual stuff will appear: Maintain teak, service Miss Nissan, etc.
Maybe this will be the year I get new sails. Didn't I say that last year? Some possibilities:
Simple music system although my Grundig shortwave works ok.
Mount another anchor on the bowrail. That would make 3 anchors on board.
Build the Portapotti into a permanent space forward of the bulkhead, starboard side.
New cushions. My sons girlfriend loves to sew, and could use the extra clams so maybe Ill give the job to heer.

Notes on my winter list: As I've made my past lists, somewhere along the line I've realized it should be divided into 2 parts: Things I'd need to get done and things I'll won't get done. I think it should be called a wish-list as in I wish I had more time/money to get it all done!

Bob--Yep, new sails are long overdue for Koinonia.  She's a looker but starting to show her age a bit.  It doesn't help to be wearing a dress from 1984.
Put this off much longer and we'll be starting a Bob's sail fund charity account.  Friends don't let friends sail com-pacs with baggy sails :).

OK, I'll add another item to my list.  Front hatch cover with screen (made from wood).  Intent to keep hatch open a crack while at the slip for better ventilation.

Jim, yep the price certainly was right. It got me through the summer.

Another project I've been wanting to do for some time is replace the piano hinge on the fold down saloon table. When open you have the ridge of the hinge sticking up. Makes chart work a bitch. So the plan is to replace it with a butler tray type hinge like this
