I've added some new pics of a couple of camp outs I've taken with the "Joyce Marie" this summer, one in June and one I just got back from on Tuesday.  4 Days each and real fun each time except for the heat and sunshine.  Thats why the shade that I rigged over the boom.  I've got an Army mosquito net that I put up under the boom tent and we sleep on the seats in the cockpit.  I've made mattresses from foam that we can either use on the cockpit seats or take into the cabin.  Real comfy when you are tired from a long day of sailing.  We got better wind this trip than the ones before and were to do more sailing this time than motoring.  Anyway, I'm getting more experience, both at sailing and at what to take and what to leave at home on these overnighters.  Hope you all enjoy the pics, just hit the picassa link below.

Great pics! Glad to see you're having such a good time with her. You saved the old girl's life; now she's paying you back in kind.  Happy Sails, Milt

Good to hear from you Milt.  Are you back up online?  Had some of the best winds this past trip of any I've done so far.  They came from mostly out of the west and that made going north and south up and down the lake easy.  So we just sailed for hours.  Just so blazing hot though.  I continue to tweak the list of stuff I carry, I'm always close to places to run in and replenish my water supply, so I cut the amount of water I carry to about half.  I took about half of the stuff I had in the kitchen box out.  My theory is that if I haven't used it lately, I'm probably not going to and it comes out.  I fixed a full breakfast on the deck, eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and coffee on one burner and a 6 inch skillet.  I don't normally go that elaborate when cooking on board, but boy, was it ever good!  This past week, I cut a hole in the cabin hatch and put in screens and a slip in window that lets light and air in the cabin, and cut one step off the boarding ladder.  I discovered that I really didn't need the extra step hanging down in the water, and it makes it easier to stow the ladder.  Trying to figure out now what I need to run all my lines to the cockpit for easier single handing.  Have been real lucky though and haven't had to do any of that, every time the boat leaves the dock, I've got someone who wants to go with me.  That makes it real fun.  I didn't realize that the sailing bug would hit everyone else here too.  I was real fortunate this month again in having a Sunfish given to me.  I have to go up to where I'm from originally in Ohio and pick it up.  They tell me that the bow of the boat needs a little patching up, but the sails and everything else are in good shape.  We shall see.........

Where in Ohio? I'm in Salem just southwest of Youngstown by 25 miles.

Thanks for the pictures, it's good to see where some one is able to get out on the water this time of year and enjoy the boat.  Way to hot and now wind in my part of the South.

Nice work on the boat.  What type of paint did you use.

Fair winds

MRB - I don't know about the paint, my brother-in-law repairs boats over in Knoxville, and he did the outside hull work for me.  I asked him how much a quart of that paint runs for just in case I ever dinged the hull, and he said, "You or I couldn't afford it",  I think it was some he had left over from a big job he did and it was either use it or lose it.  You said it was too hot and no wind in your part of the south - where are you?

Zimm - I'm originally from a little town just north of Dayton about 25 miles called Piqua.  I'm retired military and spent 2 tours here at Fort Campbell, so when I picked a spot to throw out the hook and stay this was it.  Mostly because of the post and the two lakes and all the outdoor activities here.

I have had a lot of fun in it so far this summer, and learned a lot too!  I learned the hard way why it is you learn to reef before you need it!  Got scared silly a couple of times, and found out what it's like to put the rail in the water.  I might just make a sailor yet.  I promise you, I'll be at the next rendezvous, but I'm starting to look for a 19, too many people enjoying this little 16 all at once.  I thought I'd be the only one in this family going out in it.  Wrong!
