Stains are gone!

OK not a stain on my boat!

Bar Tender Friend and a small stiff wire brush did the trick. Happy Happy!

I must admit when it was suggested I use "Bar tender Friend" I thought this was a joke, you know, A bar tender friend would be a guy past out at the end of the bar at closing time with all his money left on the bar and no one around!

I think several things may have come into play here, all the previous chemicals I tried may have begone to break the stains down but I doubt it.

I think the real results were a small steel brush (about 1/2 inch wide and 2 inches long) was stiff enough to lift the stain material off the deck.

I sprinkled the "Bar Tender Friends" on to the stain adding a little bit of water making it about the consistence of tooth paste (watered down a bit more) and using the small steel brush.

I let it sit as I worked on another stain doing the same thing working and area about 12 inches sq.

I got my sponge and wiped up the first area and most of the stain was gone, completely!

I repeated this step on all my stains and everyone of them came out completely.

I was so impressed I did the entire deck of my Eclipse using a large brush (like for washing your tires) and the entire boat looks brand spanking new again.

Now I'm thinking of using "Woods Wax" over all my deck and non skid areas to prevent this from happing again. I thought the Woodies Wax would seal those Little nicks an crannies and would be easier to clean in the future.

I tried a small brass brush but it was to soft.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

Stiff wire brush and BarKeeper's Friend. Yep the stains were scratched off. Abraded away. Along with the shine till polished back on.

I wouldn't use a steel brush if you sail in salt water -- you won't believe how many more rust stains will show up from fragments -- Use brass instead   Matt

Skip and Mat,

Yes the shine is not there now but the whole purpose of getting the stain out was so I could put a nice wax job on her without waxing over a stain.

I tried the brash brush to no avail  and yes you are right about the rust stains appearing if you don't get all those little metal fragments off the boat.

I use #0000 Steel wool to clean / polish the rails which works really well but you must get the metal fragments off the boat or you will have specks of rust.

I'm waiting for my Woodies Wax to arrive to wax my top side, should look really nice especially since there are no stains.

Hey, that Woodies Wax went on really easy and she looks pretty good!

I think what Skip was trying to say in his way is that the steel would abrade off the gelcoat, which will eventually get you into trouble. Sometimes there is no other way, but I prefer Softscrub with bleach and a soft plastic brush.

I suspect that you could have used a less aggresive form of brush and let your paste stay on a bit longer.  Bar Keepers Friend is a mild acid, so it will also take off the shine, but will leave most  of the gel coat.  I would not use a metal brush.

Last time I waxed I did my textures and they were a bit slippery on the water so used a scrubby pad to knock off the wax.   BILL

The only places I had the stains were in the non slip areas that have the basket weave pattern.

If it was for the stiff little wire brush to lift the satins material up and out of those little nicks and crannies I would still be trying to remove the stains.

I did not use the steel brush on the smooth services so that's not an issue.

As to the shine, the "Woodies Wax" (non slip wax) made every thing shine like new.

I'm very happy with my results.
