I've put together a web based chat room for us.  I'll put a link on my blog but here it is

http://www.ronmeinsler.com:5280/web/muckl/index.html

Just go there and log in with a nick name.  Preferably the one you use here so we know who were talking to.

Interesting... I bookmarked the site.  I'll check in and see how it is going. Thanks Ron

Well, it'll only be as good as we make it.  About 20 people read this post last night and only 2 logged in to the room.  Having said that, dserrel, HenryC, my buddy jmcdougal and myself had a nice time chatting with each other till about 10:30.

I logged into the room this morning and checked in periodically, but didn't see anyone else log in.

How it will fail:
1. No one logs in at all
2. Someone logs in and sees that no one is there and logs back out right away.  If everyone does this, the chances of hitting the room at the precise time that someone else does is about the same chance as two ships passing in the night.
3. No one knows how to use it and no one asks.

How it will succeed:
1.  Folks log in and stay in and check the window from time to time to see if any of the other CP sailors popped in to talk to.
2.  We set up a party.  Example, someone posts in this forum....Hey, let's all get together in the chat room this Wednesday night at 7:00.  BYOB and we'll party till 10:00
3.  We set up a weekly time when we all know that we'll be in there.  Make it like a poker night of sorts.

It's there and it's for us and our friends.  Let's see if we use it.  I know this is my busy time for the next few weeks getting all my stuff winterized and stowed away.  After that when it gets cold, I spend a lot of time on the net.

Hi there Ron.

In my opinion, the best way to do this is to schedule a weekly time or something like that. We're a small group of a couple dozen. Even if we all log in throughout the day we stand a pretty good chance of missing each other.

Me personally, I appreciate the effort, but I'm not one for the internet chat.

It's a web based live chat application.  Basically, if we all wanted to get together and have a real time discussion, this is how we do it.  If you, me, frank, bill and bob are all logged into the room at the same time, we can all see that each other is there, we can all see what each other types and we can have a real time discussion instead of typing something in the forum and having to wait a day or two for someone to respond.  It's like a real time conversation but you type and read instead of talk and listen.

Tell you what, let's set up a discussion for Wednesday at 7:00 Eastern time.  TV sucks on Wednesdays anyway.  Everyone is invited.  If you can't make it right at 7:00, pop in a little later.  If you log in early and don't see anyone in the room yet, just hang out and wait a bit.  I'll log in for sure.  Just go to the page that I linked in the first post and put your log in name in the login box and click the button. There's no password.  It'll redirect you to the chat room.  On the right, you'll see your name and who ever else is logged in.  The big white box is where you'll see the discussion once we start and the thin white box at the bottom is where you type.

You'll catch on.  It's easy.

I hope we have a nice turn out.  See you all Wednesday at 7:00 Eastern

OK, I missed Wednesday.  Is this going to happen every Wednesday?

Steve Ullrich

Me too... Didn't think of it.  Oops.

Sure.  We can shoot for Wednesday's at 7:00.  Last week was kind of a flop.  Only 3 of us showed up, but we had fun just the same.

I intend to leave the room there for at least the winter, and if folks start using it, I'll leave it there forever.   I think as the weather gets colder and we all hunker in for the winter, it may catch on a little better.

See ya Wednesday!
