Thanks, everyone. Glad that everything is going well so far!:)

Y'all will notice some changes in how things look here over the next couple of days, while I tweak the Theme and some minor functionality...

Also, working on a new CPYOA logo. Will post that here, you'll first see it in the upper right corner where it says "SMF" now, when I replace that default logo with it...

I have my eye on a 27/2 in NY - I'm hoping the owner puts it up for sale this year...he hasn't had it in the water for three years now and I'm itching to get my hands on it!  I don't even own one yet and I've been checking on the website weekly!  Thanks so much for getting her up and running.  Hopefully I'll have the boat and be getting some good use of it soon...

Waaaaait for it!

Thanks.

Gary

Great to see this site is back on line.   I really missed it and almost gave up checking on it.  Thanks, Capt. K.

Now I looking forward to some warm weather in the southern Chesapeake Bay area to start sailing the new to me (purchased in Sept.'08) 1992 COM-PAC 27/2.   Just had all the standing rigging replaced and am in process of replacing all the running rigging.   Had the sails cleaned , by SailCare and another set of reef points added etc.

If there are any other COM-PAC owners in the southern Chesapeake area, please let me know.   We keep her at the Regent Point Marina, Topping, VA.  The boats name is Celestine.  Wanted to change the name, but too much effort (& cost), as I've had it documented.

Kathy glad to see that your water world is being to open up and soon the CP-27 [ Lucky you and what year might she be? ] will be learning all about each other. I'm sure the boat is happy to have a new skipper. We are still under ice here.
So why are we R&R ing the standing rigging and the shrouds?

I really have very little experience on salt water and don't truly understand just how tough the salt water is on the hardware of a boat. While working at Palmer Johnson Yachts I had a subcontractor as a partner named Beju and he asked me if the 'cut' of water between the bay of Green Bay and Lake Michigan [the thumb of Wisconsin] was salt water. He did not believe me until he tasted the water. And he was surprised at how clean the water was as well.

Why did you pick a CP-27? Was another boat sold off for this one?
Inquiring minds want to know. skip.

Hi Skip:

We've replaced all the standing rigging, halyards, etc. mainly due to age.  They all looked fine, especially the standing rigging, and easily passed the survey last fall before purchasing, but as it's a 1992 model, didn't want to take any chances.  Plus this way, they'll last as long as we're both still above ground.  :)

Also forgot to mention that we replaced the roller furler as there was a recall on it from years ago that the former owner obviously was not notified about, nor that that the survey caught.  Too bad as I had to pay for a new furler and the recall would have been at no cost (it was the rod stay type, forget the French manufactures names.

Picked a COM-PAC for it's quality and construction methodology and materials mix.   I'm in the aerospace composites business.  Last boat was a Pearson Ariel back sold back in about 1970 - 1971.    Started raising kids and didn't thick sailboats were the place for infants.  Got in flying and motorcycles and sold my aircraft in Nov. 2007 as could not pass the medical any longer.   Then thought time to slow done a little bit, lets get back into sailing.   That's about it for now.

                                                                                                                                                         Gary & Kathy

Good story and thanks again. I don't thing you can do better then what your doing now for a sailboat. She's a babe. skip.

Gary,

As A reformed? pilot myself, I'd hardly say sailing the Chesapeake was slowing down.

Hi TG:

By slowing down I meant that in a literal sense.  When bringing the boat down from the Annapolis, MD area last Sept. and viewing a lighthouse in the distance (guessing it to be 7 - 8 miles) what would have taken a few minutes in my plane took another hour + in the boat.

Just need to recalibrate my sense of speed and the rate at which life flows past.   :)

Although I can't say I really understood your comment that sailing the Chesapeake was slowing down?

                                                                                                               Regards,

                                                                                                                Gary

As far as bookmarking this page/link, be aware that you will only want to do so only temporarily - within a week the entire CPYOA site will be moved to this new server, and the URL / name of the link will change.

And the new name will be . . . .?

Here we go again. Site moving. Kind of like packaging mortgages and selling the bundle to another carrier just to generate yet another commission.
