cabin condensation

Besides not breathing, how do y'all deal with the condensation that collects inside a closed cabin at nite?  The compac 16 windows don't open.
Of course I can keep the hatch open weather permitting, but if not is there a trick y'all have?

Condensation in a 16...hummmmm.

I don't know. With my Com-Pac 19 I can open 4 ports that have screens, 1 fwd. hatch with a screen, maybe leave the companionway hatch [I cut mine on a horizontial 45 for better storage and to be able to select the upper part or lower part or both parts to fill the opening.  [Pictures on Frappr link, home page of CPYOA] AND many don't do this, open the hatches of the settees of the cockpit benches.  Mine are held open by springs so they don't slam shut in seas.

A 16 I'd go with that solar/battery fan, 3 inch in dia sold at West Marine. And maybe a grill/vent in the drop board.  Put the fan on the fwd. hatch. Either suck in or blow out.
You need to move some air. skip.

Skip, Thanks, I thought about a little fan which I have a 12 volt plug in for.
Can't figure out how to get to the frapper link to see C & J, to see the screens you made.
Did check out your Door County Site.....made me homesick.

Skip, I figured it out and saw your pics.....love the puppy.
Great door. Pretty boat.  I'm brainstorming slide in screens.

Deb, Logan is a great dog, I got him when he was four months old at the dog pond for $40 dollars. He and three other pups and mom all came in on Friday and were at new homes the next day Saturday. He is 8 years now. So mellow and playful. Can't get a more laid back dog then a pure bread collie. He really is cute too and when I walk him without leach or collar I simply lower my hand and extend my index finger and Logan clamps onto the finger gently and we cross the roads, then I say release and he lets go of my finger till the next road.

Homesick? So your a northern gal?

The problem with a 12 volt fan is battery draw, you'll run out of juice I'm afraid in short order. The solar charged fans are suppose to run for a night and charge during the day...I don't know. Must be a really low amp draw.
Ask a lot of questions before plopping down $100+. And I would have to think long and hard about a 3" or 4" hole in my forward hatch.

So lets say that good ventilation is 2-1/2 to 3 cabin volumes an hour for air exchange.

That's inside length x width x height=? cubic foot x 2.5 or 3.0 = x cubic foot an hour... and divided by 60 minutes= cubic foot a minute. So that CFM or CFH is the amount of ventilation that is OK in round numbers.

Vents in the drop board are OK but in order to move air out of these vents a means of getting air in the boat is necessary. skip.

Any air moving no matter how little is OK. The more the better.

Skip, Interesting math....kinda like my water garden.  Yep, born in Kenosha county, spent many a memorial time up in Door County, Washington and Rock Islands...but now been in Tn longer.
I'll look into the solar fans.
We had two brothers rough collies and loved them sooo much. One a blue merle and the other a tri color.  After they passed it took us 3 years to get another dog. Punkin Head is our little wild darlin Yorkie.
Don't want to cut any holes either.....just got that problem fixed.
I wonder if I had a long snorkle and extended it outside at night while I sleep?

If snorkeling, use a bug screen. Cough, cough.

Wooden Boat show at the Maritime Museum this week end.

Will be waving the flag for the United States Power and Sail Squadron.

A fraternal boating club informing the uninformed...keeping them alive on the water and others safe from them.  Additionally doing vessel safety checks. skip.
