Has anyone ever installed a forward hatch in an older CP16? I know some of the newer models have them from the factory but not sure what kind of structual problems i would create by cutting a hole in the forward deck. It would be nice to go below on warm summer days but theres just no ventalation. My dorad vent has been replaced with a solar vent but not sure that really makes much difference. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Brooke

I would contact Hutchins.  Have your serial number or year of manufacture ready if you do not know the model you have.

They probably have a hatch they could sell you too to match the later models.

My CP-16III has a hatch.  The hull is raised a bit just like the area for the bow cleat and the mast step.  Likely, its a piece of wood glassed in the hull.  This provides a level place to install the hatch, which is an aftermarket product you can find at any marine store.  If you were very handy with fiberglass work, you could probably do this reasonably well.  If it's you first fiberglass project and you are not interested in re-painting your boat, then you'd do well to get a few more fans for the cabin, IMHO.
