Dan

Hello All - I am a new Com-Pac 16 Owner located in Charlotte NC. I have sailed with others in the past. Have spent the last 30 years wanting to have a boat of my own. Finally took Sailing lessons at Oriental NC this May. Found my 16 on EBay in Aug. I have registered her on this site. She is a 1976 model. New name is "What A Dame" She has been in Marietta GA since 2001. 1995 - 2001 she was in Chippewa Falls WI. And at some point before that, she was in Minnesota (There is a MN registration shadow on the bow). All original sails, trailer, and equipment. Fiberglass is in wonderful shape for her age. I have sailed her twice this year before the drought closed all of the ramps on Lake Norman NC. Hoping to get her into the shop this winter to clean and buff her up and to do something to her bottom. At some point, the bottom paint was partially removed. The forum information on how to get a 16 off of the trailer and balance her on her keel has been very helpful. Motor is a 1972 4 HP Johnson 50th Aniv. Edition. Mechanic said no need for a new one. This one is in great shape. Looking forward to learning the boat and learning from you sailors here.

Seaman Deuce

Welcome Aboard,

Sorry to hear about the drought drydocking your "16" but that's, more or less, how I got mine.  No water in the middle of the state and it was getting expensive for the former owner to keep her in storage and equally expensive to drive to sailing water.

Being a total rookie (hence the name "Seaman Deuce") I'm not at a total loss since I do "coffee up" at The Bean in Oriental and have lots of friends who want to teach me once I heal from this shoulder surgery.  In the interim I'm working on the things in my "intro".

Holler if you're down this way.  Got a put-in just down the street from the house.

Hey Dan!

Welcome to the forum.  Glad to hear of another 16er in the area.  I went to Mooresville for Christmas.  Wow, the water is low.  Rained at least an inch today, so maybe a wet winter will fill the lake.  That would be a lot of rain.

Ramps at Lake James are closed, too.  But, if ever you want to sail there let me know.  Very pretty location.

Greetings, Dan.
I've always liked the 16's but never sailed on one. Maybe this summer. As far as droughts, we have none here in Barnegat Bay in NJ. At least none that affect our sailing.
A basic sailing rule: Keep the stick pointing up; the rest will follow.
