How to tell if sails are 'blown out'?

Sent off the sails of our C16-1 to SailCare to get them "LaMauney'd". The estimate came back more than double what I expected due to new numbers, insignias, telltales, reset bolt ropes, etc. My question is, being a sailing greenhorn, I'm willing to spend the money to make sure the sails are 100% servicable, but if they are 'blown out' or have other issues how would I know? or would they have checked in their measurements? I don't want to spend that much if the sails aren't worth it. We just bought the boat this past summer and had it out a few times, the sails work, that's about the best I know! lol :)

Call the loft and ask about the price of new.  If they are worth any salt they will tell you if they think your coin will be better spent.  Make your choice then. All boats will need new sometime.

Iv'e found Sailcare to be quite honest. I also sent my original 1985 sails for my 23 there a couple of years ago. The laundering price was reasonable but they did indeed need certain repairs, which I let them do. When they arrived back, they were crispy. They have worked great. I think if the sails were shot, they'd be up front about it to you. Iv'e met these folks at numerous boat shows and they are straight shooters.
Ick is right, the time will come when replacement is neccesary, but Sailcare can extend that time. My father in law bought used sails for his Irwin through Atantic Sail Traders- that's one route.
