CLAIMED: Com-Pac 16 project boat and trailer, free to a good home, SW Michigan

#ABV01974m8311.  Soon after I acquired this vessel I was presented with an opportunity to share a 34' cruising sailboat which we kept in Lake Michigan ports for the next ten years. During that time, the Com-Pac was indoors in my pole barn, and continues to be there today. I am now well into my 8th decade and I am never going to do the restoration I had planned. As a bonus, I had purchased a new Ruddercraft foiled rudder blade, and a new set of sails from a member of this forum which included a furler for the jib.Of course these go with the boat. The boat and trailer are titled in my name and I believe the tires are fit for the road. Before I try to donate to an NPR station I am posting this to see if anyone with some knowledge of these fine little boats is interested. Two six nine nine nine eight seven four three nine.

PS: I forgot: 3.5 hp Tohatsu outboard that starts easily and runs well is included, along with spare prop, spark plug, etc.

Hello. I'm curious if the boat is still available? I currently own a 1979 Compac myself and considering going head first into restoring her or perhaps start with something different. I will try to reach out later today.

Thanks to all of you who looked at my posting. The 16 went to a forum member with enthusiasm and plans! I am very happy that this 43-year-old gem was saved from a landfill.

There's a problem with your HIN as posted. HIN ABV01974m8311 is not valid; it looks like it should be ABV01974M83L. This would make it Com-PAC hull number 1974, Model Year 1983, built in April of 1983. So it is a late Type 1/early Type 2, possibly. There is a blur between the 1&2 between '83 and '85, but with a hull number below 2001, it's likely mostly Type 1. I own a '85, hull 2244, and it's a hybrid, but well beyond the "last Type 1" hull number commonly used - #2001.

As an '83, yours is still a valuable boat to keep on the active rolls. A few weeks ago, I would have been jumping at your offer, but I wound up buying the one I mentioned above. I also have a 1977, Type 1 modified with a Pilot House. It was modified professionally, but I'm adding a lot of cruising mass to it and wanted to be able to sailing without having to disrupt the work on it, so I got a second boat and paid for it. Being in my 9th decade hasn't slowed me down in my goals. I still sail, work on my boats, scuba dive and travel. Drives my wife of just shy of 62 years crazy! 🤪

Much as I love NPR, I recommend you give some dollars to them and find the right sailor for your boat. If you run out of candidates, I'll gladly take her and use her well I'd love to get a group of young folks and train them to sail around here.

Capt.ScubaDave, she has gone to an enthusiastic and capable young man with a family and lakefront access. I am very happy she is still sailing. And I do send generous $ to NPR and my local stations.

Finally, I was blessed for 52 years of marriage to a non-sailing woman, the love of my life, who encouraged me to sail and who knew that the canvas can do miracles.We are lucky men! Thank you for clearing up my misreading of the serial number.
