Anyone know what happened to the molds?

I am curious if anyone has heard anything about what has happened to the molds? I might be interested in specific ones but can't find anyone that knows what happened. There was a rumor that the boats were being built by Island Packet and that they had the molds. Island Packet says no; they did not build boats for Compac.

Hi, I had heard (but don't recall from whom) that the molds were -- very sadly -- all destroyed. :-(  I can't confirm if this is true or not -- anyone else know what happened?

I can tell you, however, that I personally spoke with Matt Hutchins, son of Gerry Hutchins (one of the brothers who owned Com-Pac Yachts) and Matt told me that they'd inquired around to see if any other company/anyone might want to continue building the boats, but Matt said that there was -- again, very sadly -- no interest. This conversation happened after the company had announced they'd be closing down, so I feel confident Matt's info was accurate.

Very sad to lose Gerry and then Com-Pac, too. Shatters my heart. :-(

I wouldn't be surprised if the molds are sitting on a lot somewhere. There is a mold at a marina near me several sailors, 2 being Flicka owners, claim is the Flicka mold. I've seen the mold, but never inspected it so I can't say it is or isn't.

I'd expect someone with the skills and $$$ could build hull/deck molds off of a donor boat.  There were many Sunfish sailboat and Boston Whaler skiff clones made 50 years ago. Some were better built than others....

I was told by a reliable source (ex Hutchins employee) that the molds were cut up and hauled away.

Someone would probably need to get the licensing rights before trying to rebuild molds by flashing them from a current hull/deck, etc.
