I have a 2008 Sun Cat with a Garhauer mainsheet block with a cam cleat.  Please see the attached photo.  Notice that there is a spring between the block and its mount.  I'm sure this was intended to make the block stand up.  However, the spring is too short, and the block just flops over.

This set-up must have been modified by a previous owner.  How did the mainsheet block come from the builder? Did it come with a stand-up spring or was that added?  Maybe the prior owner modified the way the block is attached to the eye strap.

I would like to get the mainsheet blocks to stand up if that is what was intended, because I put the Bimini top back on the boat and it kind of gets in the way of the mainsheet when it is down and not deployed.  Thanks for any info you can provide.  Sure miss Gerry...

I bought a stand-up spring for my PC a LONG time ago and can't remember the specs. However, at the time there were several available in different sizes from the usual sources in  - Defender, WM, etc quite cheaply like a few dollars. Just look them up and get what seems right. I think I bought 2 and used 1. The other went into my miscellaneous hardware bin. You can probably "shim" yours or one that isn't quite right with a short piece of hose as well.

Hi, I also have a 2008 SC, that I am the 2nd owner of the boat, since 2018. I have the double ended, continuous mainsheet, with two blocks and jam cleats on the aft cockpit coaming. As I understand, ComPac went to the aft mainsheet in 2008, where, before they had midboom sheeting with a traveler in the forward cockpit bench.

To answer your question, I do not have any standup springs on my blocks and I believe that my setup was how it came from the factory. I'm thinking the previous owner(s) of your boat didn't like the arrangement, the same as you and they added the springs, only a bit too short!! Just buy longer ones from a local marine store and see what length works. And if you would, let us know which ones work best.
Thanks
