Got out in the Water Today

I've been readying the 19 for the keys trip and doing all those chores we all hate when I got an email about a "Flash Cruise" to South River for a meet and eat and a bonfire on the beach. A flash cruise is when a club member invites others to join on a last minute sail. Most left Thursday but we had dr appointments and errands to run so I planned on meeting them today. The bonfire had been canceled due to dry conditions. The weather forecast was ideal. S/W winds with overnight temps in the mid 60s. This morning I loaded the boat, pulled out of the slip, and headed down the creek. I was only 1/2 mile out when I realized I forgot my food. Heading back to the slip, it started to drizzle, then pour. Forecast was .05" of rain. I found out just how un-waterproof the Bimini is. (I just purchased a spray waterproofer, but need to wash the material first) I left the boat side tied near the ramp and drove home to get the food. Weather report now stating rain to stop in 3 hours so I decided to reheat some leftover pizza. After eating the badly burnt pie I returned to the boat and sat inside reading until the rain stopped. As I was preparing to leave, my phone received several texts from members saying not to come as a thick fog set in and more rain is predicted in the morning.
So the 10mph S/W wind never showed and the .05" of rain was 1.5". At least I got out.😏

Hey, crazycarl! So are both the Orion and 19 at your dock? The Flash Cruise sounds like a lot of fun -- I'd love to do stuff like that if we lived in the area, for sure.

I keep the 19 at our dock. The Orion is in a slip 3/4 of a mile from home. It's safer in the slip during hurricanes and the 19 gets pulled and secured to the ground while on the trailer.

I remember Keith Scott telling me that he had to do that in Richlands, NC, where his Com-Pac dealership was -- he told me that he'd secure anchors to all of his boats on the hard/on land in his lot for when storms came.

So awesome that you have your 19 right there -- and that your Orion isn't too far to go to reach her, too!

As the great George Carlin was known to say "I'd rather get in the airplane than on the airplane" in this case I'm sure you meant that you got out on the water, but with your reputation, one is never sure.

This is true.
