I recently purchased a 2005 Compac Horizon without a "gin" pole. I subsequently bought a gin pole from the factory but haven't been able to find gin pole installation instructions, a photo or Youtube video. I've seen the company video showing someone raising the mast but can't discern the installation detail from the video. Does anyone have instructions or a photo they could send or post? I would greatly appreciate any help.

Hi, Panhandle Steve! Congratulations on your new boat and welcome to the forum! Unfortunately, I'm not sure about the answer to your question, but I was going to recommend you reach out to a former Con-Pac dealer out of Michigan. His name is Rob Voigt. You can find his information on the Com-Pac website. If for any reason you can't track his info there, just reach back out to me and I'll get you some contact numbers. I am sure that Rob will be able to help you as he has a Horizon Cat himself. 🌞⛵️

I posted a manual in the Eclipse section that I put together that has good detail on the mastender setup.  Not 100% sure if the Horizon is the exact same as the Eclipse but it should get you close.  See first post in link above.

Steve.  I have had a Eclipse and now a Horizon and the mastender is similar but not the same.  Sorry, I do not have a pic, but let me try to explain it:
Make sure your 2 side shrouds are loose, attach the pole to the mast at the stub.  Turn the outer end of the pole so the cutout is parallel to the mast.  Run the head stay through the cutout until the end of the swage fitting is held tightly in the split.  Note: this is important!  If the cut does not grab the swage fitting, it may slip when you begin to raise the mast.  This will cause the mast to fall and possibly bend the J pole at the base.  If the pole is bent, it will not line up with the swage and slide up the head stay.  FYI.  Once I get everything together, I grab the mast, from the cockpit and push it up while pulling on the head stay line (with the line locked).  Once I get it started it is slightly easier to finish stepping the mast.  Walk forward and put the curved pin in place to hold the mast up.  Once you are sure the curved pin is holding up the mast, attach the front stay to the bow sprint, close the lever, pinning it in place.  Hope this helps.  If you need additional coaching yell!  or maybe call me at 630-728-6035.  Always good to talk to a fellow Horizon owner.  Sail On,  Al
