C-16 CB vs a Montgomery 15

What say you - anyone that has sailed both? - how do they compare?

I have read several comparisons between the older C16 and M15 - but nothing recently after the CB was added and the rig changed to a midboom mainsheet.

I'm looking hard at one or the other to buy this fall.  I'm not in a hurry to part with my coins - I've got time to wait - I really won't have much sailing time till next spring anyway.

Looking for objective comparisons - speed is not the issue - but sailing characteristics is.  Has the flat sheet centerboard really corrected the leeway situation - or is this stilll a big issue when going windward?  Does the Idasailor foil rudder really improve handling?

Thanks for any ideas

Jobst,

Sorry to hear about your Flicka.  That would be my dream cruising boat to have in Bayfield (Lake Superior).

No specific comparisons to offer, but curious why you would not look at the 17 instead of the 15?  I actually almost got a 17, but the CP-16 was found first....

I am sure you have this link, but hyg>

The M17 weighs more than I can tow - my limit this time around is 1,500 pounds - Otherwise, I'd be sailing a Com-Pac19 again.

Did you see this article?

I never realized that the Monty cockpit was only 5'6". That would be a deal-killer for me - I like sleeping outside when bugs/weather permits. :)

Balsa-cored decks - something to look over carefully before buying.

Good link, David! Thanks!

Well, I don't know about their sailing characteristics, but, (and all you Monti owners out there please forgive me for saying it), compared to a ComPac, the Montie is just BUTT-UGLY.  The CP is such a good-looker with those clasic lines and balanced proportions, that I really don't care if a M15 sails circles around me, I'll pick the Com-Pac every time.  Where was it I heard the quote?... "LIFE'S TOO SHORT TO SAIL AN UGLY BOAT"
