Center Board Lifting Pennant Cleat

In the process of sealing the center board pennant tube I removed the pennant cleat and its mount and tried to reinstall so that less water will come into the cockpit when sailing fast.  On my boat the wood block was installed with a gasket but also with sealant.  It was quite the job to get it out.  Once out I could see that the pennant tube sits about 3/8" above the surface of the deck.  My original intent was to first install a 3/8" rubber gasket with the larger hole, with a 1/8" gasket over that with an undersized hole for the pennant.  Then the wood block would be installed.  As I installed the turning block for the pennant I put another gasket with undersized hole below it.  As it turned out I left of the second, 1/8", gasket that is the size of the wood block.  I can always come back to add that if needed.  (I have plenty of material now since I could only find it at Granger and the smallest size is 12" x 12")

The reason I changed the cleat arrangement is because I never really trust the cam cleats that were used on the boat.  When the pennant is wet it does not hold very well.  On the Sun Cat the centerboard is not going anywhere, but on my old Drascombe Dabber I dragged the centerboard home a couple of times before I realized what was happening and added a 4 x 4 across the trailer to keep the centerboard off the road.

I share your dislike for the clamcleats Com-Pac used for the CB pendant. I replaced mine, which is on top of the CB trunk on the PC. Even worse with the cleat on the cockpit sole, looks to be easily dislodged.

I like your new cleat. I used an Allen a4876, more of a trip hazard on the sole. Had to order it from the UK at the time, I see it can be found in the States these days.
