Good morning,
I am contemplating future vehicles to tow my 23. I know dry weight is approximately 3,000 lbs.
Trailer 500 lbs?
Plus gear and outboard. 300 lbs?
Currently I use my Tacoma rated at 6500 lbs tow capacity.
Anyone ever use a Honda Pilot with tow package? I think it is rated for 5000 lbs.
I appreciate any thoughts.

You know dry weight is 3000 lbs.? is that from the specs or did you weigh your boat? When I noticed that the 23IV was listed at 3200 I called Hutchins to ask about the increase.  They said nothing in particular just various changes over the years.

The stock (at the time, 2005) dual axle steel trailer weighs just under 1000 lbs according to the nameplate and if you have the old mast raising system which has the steel pole and yoke you can add 100 for that. Then there is the motor, fuel tank, anchor, battery(s) and stuff.

While I've never weighed it I estimate that my total tow is right at 5K.  I also tow with a 2007 Toyota Tacoma with tow package and the 4.0 motor.  It is rated at 6500 tow and 11,200 gross combined. Be aware that taking things off the boat and putting them in your vehicle does not lower the gross combined. Even with the cushion I struggle up any moderately steep hill.

I personally would never select a tow vehicle that didn't have at least 20% cushion to both tow and gross combined for long range towing.  Going a few miles from house to ramp is another story.

you need v8 power with lots of torque and good brakes

I towed my 23 with a Chevy Colorado with a 3.6L v6 and it towed fine.  I tow a 6K lb travel trailer with it as well, so there's no way you need a v8 to tow a 23.

Most states require trailer brakes on anything over 3K lbs.

We tow our 23 (including 6 hp outboard) with a Ford F-150 6 cyl turbo (with a tow package). I think our truck's rated for around 7,700 lbs. While the truck can handle the 23 (I would not say effortlessly, however), it cannot haul our 25 (w/ inboard diesel engine), so we recently acquired a new-to-us F-250 Super Duty (7.3 L V8) which can tow the 25 and then some no prob.
