Hello Group!!

I have had some difficulty logging on, but think that I have things figured out, so a brief intro:

First, Thank you to so many of you.  I?ve surfed around here gathering information, help, suggestions, and ideas for adventures from this group.  And thank you to many members who have posted videos of helps as well!!!

I live and sail in the Upper Great Lakes Region, and have learned enough about sailing that I cannot brag about my skill as a sailor.

I currently own s/v Mariposa a 23-3 Compac that I purchased mid/late summer.  I sail with my wife and  son mostly, and usually trailer launch when I have at least three days to sail.  We have explored the St. Mary?s River, Les Chenaeux islands, St. Martins Islands, and Mackinac/Round islands.  Our hope is to venture farther west to the Beaver Island group...

I also have several other boats that are either enjoyed separately for the variety that they allow, or I am planning on selling? The Compac 23 is THE boat that helped to fulfill the desire to have a reasonable amount of space, reasonably easy to trailer/rig/launch, reasonably seaworthy, and an overall pleasurable boat to sail?we like the looks too!!

Other boats: Columbia 22, Montgomery 17, RobRoy23, Wayfarer 16, Slipper 17.  Sailboats that have been sold: Catalina 27, Lonestar 16, Mouette Paceship 20, O?Day Mariner, O?Day 19 Weekender, and??

My first love for sailing was discovered on an amusement park ride.  It rode like a sailboat (the rocket Comet I think). And my first I-love-this-feeling sail was on a Frisco Flyer Choey Lee 25.

Well, this is the short version?hello group, and thank you again for welcoming me aboard, and I hope to help a little if I can.  (Also, my 23 is the outboard version and came with a Genaker that I have not been able to test yet..)

Hi Randy and welcome! I usually charge the normal $5,000.00 membership fee but you are a fellow 23 owner and we're running a half price special in October so that equals free! Don't let it get around or the others will want a refund!

My 23 is a mark 2, 1985 and it's a wonderful little yacht! Koinonia is kept in a marina these days where she's well protected as now we're getting pounded by Ian's remnants. I sail in Barnegat Bay NJ where there is a deep heritage in sailing notably the Barnegat Bay Sneakbox from which the Melonseeds can trace their heritage. Also, the A-Cats had their beginnings around here as well.

Sounds like you have and have had quite a collection of sailboats which is good because now when the Admiral accuses me of having too many boats, I can point to you! I really don't have many, just the 23 and my Adirondack Guideboat "Stragger" which I row and race in practically every event in New England that I can get to.

  Welcome aboard again!!

Thank you Bob!!

The Adirondack Guideboat is one of the most beautiful designs in it class?perfect blend of grace and function.  I have a Dan Kidney 14 that is waiting for my attention?maybe this winter...  I belong to the Les Cheneaux traditional small craft association, and hoping we vote to take it in as a group project...

I believe that I have seen Koinonia on a few videos??

Thank you again for the welcome!

Hi Randy. Yes, Koinonia has been in a few videos; still waiting for the royalties to come pour in.
I love my guideboat! She's been out in some rough weather, always took care of me. I race it all over New England including the Blackburn Challenge- 8 of them so far as well as numerous shorter races.

The 23 is a wonderful boat, very pretty and very well built. I got caught out in 30+ knots of wind a few years ago, put the 2nd reef in the main and rolled up the headsail to about 1/3 and enjoyed a safe sail back to the marina, although just a wee bit wet.

So you still have your Rob Roy 23?

Cheers!

Bob,

Good to know that the 23 can handle a little heavy weather if needed!  It was blowing around 15 knots with gusts to 20 on our first sail.  We sailed with working jib alone and it was comfortable.  I had the main pre-reefed, but we decided to relax and enjoy an easier time.  Wind lessened but it was a little bouncy in the accumulated waves..

Yes, I still have the RobRoy.  The rudder was weak when I purchased and I have not finished a rebuild yet.  Also, I planned to sand, barrier coat, and paint the bottom with anti-fouling.  It is an intriguing design, that I will be saddened to sell, but I do think the Compac has a simplified rig?compared to the yawl RobRoy, and rides a little more upright.  I can really feel the ballast on the c23!

I purchased a Gantry hoist from Harbor Freight, and plan to lift the RobRoy off the trailer and block it, so I can gain access to the bottom..

Viking

I bought a Gohoist lift for my CPY-19. Check it out. Mine can lift 5 ton and the boat hangs in two straps. Needed to be able to work under boat with it suspended since I will have to grind on the bottom of the keel for glass repair. Plus my trailer needed $1k worth of repairs and I couldn't float her due to keel damage. When finished the frames come apart and can be stored away on a pallet. You can see them online at gohoist.com.

Hiya Holdfast2!  Just wondering where in da Yoop you are located?  I'm down in the banana belt, Escanaba, area.  I recently became the owner of a beautiful and new to me 1986 CP 27.
