Hi, friends! Just had to share this with you all -- I follow this young woman's sailing channel - 'Wind Hippie Sailing' (Holly Martin) -- and she just released this really funny video called 'The Five Types of Sailors' -- totally made my day to watch this, especially on a cold Midwestern day!

By the way, this young woman is the daughter of Dave and Jaja Martin -- the couple who circumnavigated on a Cal 25, back in the 90s or so (can't remember exactly). They used to write for some of the sailing mags about their journey.

Holly sails a 27 ft Danish made sailboat called a Grinde 27; she left Maine back in 2019 and made her way down the eastern seaboard into the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and onto French Polynesia -- a real inspiration!

Here's the video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoQELIC1JkE

Enjoy!

Thank you Chelle!!
When I subscribed to Good Old Boat magazine, I followed the Martins adventures closely and lost touch when they built their off the grid home in Maine. If you can dig up old issues, they'd be worth reading. I dont' think I have mine anymore.
  I'll check the vid out.
Best to you and thank you so much for your many contributions to the site here! You do certainly make it more interesting!

Hi, Bob23! I'd love to read the articles by the Martins -- they've a few posted on their website at http://www.iceblinksail.com/home.html. I think it's really cool that their daughter, Holly, is following in their footsteps! I've learned a lot watching Holly's videos and she is a wonderful writer, too, on her blog site. Unfortunately, she's not maintaining her blog so much anymore as the last update was some time ago. However, she is very active on YouTube with her 'Wind Hippie Sailing' channel and she also, evidently, shares a lot on her Instagram account @boatlizard, but I am not on Instagram, so I don't get access to that aspect of when she's sharing the photographic content of her journey.

Thank you for the lovely words on my participation on the CPYOA forum -- that really touched my heart! It's been such a blessing to connect with so many incredible people on this site -- I really do feel part of such a special community!

Fair winds!

Last winter we started following  Wind Hippie..   and we read together the book that Holly's dad wrote about their second voyage,  with 3 kids on a 33 foot steel sailboat  when they ventured to the arctic circle and the kids spent a year in school in iceland and then pointed east and spent time in norway..   a fantastic adventure for sure.    janet still can't get over that holly walks barefoot on islands where there are sure to be poisonous snakes  and  thinks nothing of diving overboard in the tropics where janet is sure that a shark is waiting for her  :)     she certainly is a free spirit!     jt
