One of these days, my ship's gonna come sailing in, but this CP 23 is too far for me to go, unfortunately. Looks like the boat has a new 2022 trailer from what I read in the ad. Again, not my boat/no affiliation with the owner/seller -- just came across the ad and hoping it will help someone else here in Com-Pac land! :-)

It's a rare Compac 22 with a loa of 28 feet!

I can see a premium for a newer aluminum trailer and a newer Honda motor - but not as much as they are asking

The assumed value of any outboard sold with a boat is precisely $0.00.

Explain, please?

I guess I'm not sure I agree that the trailer and motor don't add value.  NADA guides certainly take them into account when presenting a boat's value.  That said that 23 is definitely overpriced in my opinion.  I think 13K to 15K is more realistic depending on condition.

I agree - nice trailer and fairly new motor - I think they are trying to recover the cost of that trailer and the cost of that motor - I agree prob 15k max

Bingo.

Nobody goes out looking to buy a motor or a trailer just in case a boat comes along.  Now if a boat should become available, they will purchase it sans motor and possibly even sans trailer without much fuss, fully content to find the accessories later if necessary.

Additionally, sellers tend to be afflicted with a bizarre psychosis that makes them think their trailers and motors don't depreciate much faster than the boat.  They do, particularly the motors.  Run one in the water once and it loses half its value.  The boat loses maybe 10% on that maiden voyage, and declines much more gradually over time.  Much of this has to do with the fact that sketchy maintenance kills the motor and trailer much faster than it kills the boat.  The rest is due to the above-referred scarcity of the boat as a resource.

Which would you pay 2/3 of original list for--a four year old Eclipse, or a four year old Tohatsu?

Wow, so much I disagree with where to start.  Run a motor once and it loses half its value?  Just ran my 6 YO Nissan sail pro through NADA valued at 60% of original list, which I didn't pay so about 65% of what I paid.  Additionally, used boat prices are influenced by new boat costs, and in periods of high inflation used goes up.  That's where we are now.  I think it is difficult to sell a TRAILER sailor without a trailer.  Finding a trailer that is appropriate for a particular sailboat, making that purchase in one location, going to pick up the boat, the whole logistics of the purchase is much more difficult.  When I bought my 23 I only looked at those that had trailers, didn't have to be new, but had to be of the same vintage of the boat and road ready. Certainly, motor would be optional.

Think you are backwards on the statement of 10% then much more gradual.  The initial five years is the highest depreciation and then, with sailboats, the depreciation becomes much more gradual and then value is dictated strictly by condition.

But, the boat in question is priced too high IMHO.  Even with the nearly new motor and trailer the boats age does not warrant the selling price.  If I were selling my 2005 23IV very well optioned and with a very good motor and trailer that is about what I would expect to get.  NADA agrees with me.

I worry that the seller is not as represented. Misspellings, inaccuracies, and all.  Maybe if I send the seller a $40K certified check payment and he sends me back $20k from his account....

LOL, while I think that is a grand idea, your input is not relevant on this thread .  As one who has managed to build a complete fleet with mostly strays that wander up, your input regarding market value may be tainted.;)
