staging out of Oriental is certainly possible, as would be a Cape Lookout run with the 16's putting in at Beaufort.

Let's get some input folks

Great idea. Let's collect some hard data! All those interested in the event, please reply with name, boat size, home port, and preferred meet-up location. Like this:

Prefer Oriental meet-up

I will volunteer to tabulate and report.

Location doesn't matter to me as I will be a day tripper.  Tuesday through Friday are generally my best days, but since I'll likely be just doing one day with the group, then whatever works best for the majority.

I can do the 28th-the 30th. I may be able to squeeze leaving on Tues, the first.
I still prefer New Bern myself, but again, I'd be open to majority preferences. I can't make an Oriental to Ocracoke trip due to time constraints.

I think an Ocracoke trip would be a bit too ambitious for our first shot.

CP23 here in Southport.
I will be there in spirit.
It would be a bit of a sail up the coast.
I am spoiled by slip sailing. Trailering is out for me.
Sounds like a great trip,
Fred

If I can make it ( depends on when it is ) I'd have to be crew on the ship o the line PS34.  Okay Charlie?

Looks like this thing might happen.
Do we want to:
meet at a town, daysail & raft up for a meal,
daysail (or destination), tie up & go out to eat, or
do a short destination cruise?
Or something else (your suggestions here)

Here are some distances (approximate) to help with decision-making:

New Bern to Oriental
(or Oriental to New Bern)      22 miles
New Bern to Upper Broad Creek   6 miles (anchorage)
Oriental to South River         9 miles (anchorage)
Oriental to Lower Broad Creek   9 miles (anchorage)
Beaufort to Shackleford Banks   3 miles (anchorage or daysail)
Beaufort to Cape Lookout
           Outside route         12 miles (anchorage)
..........Inside route             10 miles (anchorage)

Take a minute & come up with what route/format you would prefer (C-16's can launch at Beaufort, Oriental, or New Bern but remember they max out at 5 knots or so).

AirborneJarhead is the only one who has entered a time preference.  Any other input on time or do we go with that?

Here's the list of the seven sailors who have expressed interest:

Name                           Boat   Home Port           Preferred Meetup

Mike Bramble                   16   New Bern       Oriental, Beaufort
Glenn (geeman)               16   Rocky Mount    Day sail
Rick (AirborneJarhead)     16   Charlotte      Oriental, New Bern
Terry Gillette                   23   New Bern      Oriental, Beaufort
Bruce Woods                   23   New Bern      Oriental, New Bern
Wes Newman                  27   Bath             Oriental, Beaufort
Charlie Deisher            PS 34   New Bern

There is wide support for Oriental either as a starting point or destination. There are more 16s than any other boat size, although only 1 of the 16s is based in New Bern.

What do you all think about this:

- Meet up at Oriental on Friday afternoon Oct. 4 and overnight there w/group dinner
- Saturday Oct. 5 sail to Beaufort and overnight there
- Sunday Oct. 6 return to Oriental

Thoughts and alternate ideas welcomed!

Wes
