water coming in from where rope lifts keel

So, we launched our boat today.  Beautiful, great wind, but almost immediately water started spurting up around where the rope is that you use to lift, drop the keel centerboard. We have never had this before.

I'm interested in any thoughts on why this would start happening, and should I be as anxious as I am about it.

That always happens on my Legacy when the outboard is on, and either I'm going fast, or there are lots of waves. It's totally normal, and something to get used to.

Did you have more people on board, or more weight in the boat? Mine does it as well. Especially in choppy seas. I've had several small boats such as a Precision 18, Montgomery 15, and the Legacy. They all do this to some extent. If it's not a little water coming up thru the centerboard pennant hole, it's the cockpit scuppers backwashing. I have used rubber plugs in the past or lengths of hose to extend the distance. Both help the situation.
