My wife and I wanted to learn sailing so we took some lessons at the local lake on some sunfish... After deciding we wanted a boat I settled on the 16 as it fit our budget/skills/family and what we wanted to do in a sailboat! It's an 83 and I've been on the water 3 times! Thanks for having me on the forum!

congratulations!

now before the "new jersey curmudgeon" contacts you with demands of "entrance fees" and such,  let me say the ONLY requirement for new Compac owners is to attend CLR for your official swearing in ceremony.  don't let that pbr swilling derelict tell ya there's a fee for CLR either.  the only $ exchanged is if you participate in the exquisite vittles that Sara and too tall spread out, and that is minimum.

well, welcome to the family and don't listen to Roberto with his lame warnings of visits from Vinnie and Guido, they're more like Lennie and Squigy.

he's just jealous of 16 and 19 owners because we can take our boats with us on vacation while his sits "bobbing"  (see how i did that?) in the ocean.

You're welcome...and welcome!! A nice choice and it sounds like you've already fallen in love with her! What'd you name her and where do you sail??

Just seeing this Mr. Widdlecups. Pay no attention to Crazy Carl- his name fits him well. It is true that there is a $5000.00 membership fee just to apply here (payable to me in cash, of course) but hey, today is the 25th and I'm feeling quite merry tonight (might be the rum??) so I'm waiving the normal fee for you!!
Carl, if you're reading this, Vito, Guido and Tito are headed to your house right now...they don't like being insulted, capeche??

Thanks for the welcome. Thanks for waving the fee Bob!

The boat came with a name "Wind Dancer". I've Heard that one can't change the name of a boat? I'm mostly o.k. with the name but I don't like the double d's-- winD Dancer doesn't seem to roll off the tongue. I may just replace the font one day but one thing at a time you know!?

I live In Raleigh N.C. and so far have just been exploring the local lakes and ramps around this part of town. I'd like to get out to the sound one day and sail to Ocracoke when I'm more confidant in myself the the dancer. I also want to try an overnight on the boat at some point but I'll probably wait until spring.

We'll see!

Welcome and congrats on the boat!!  I live in Durham just up the road and have my 27 on Kerr Lake. It's worth the drive, only about an hour or so. You can launch at Steele Creek Marina, that is where my Windrunner is docked. Welcome to the ComPac group!   Jim

Congrats as well. A wonderful choice for a learn to sail boat Also a boat to have for just what she is. We have now owned two. We also have taken them on their trailer to
Ocracoke and sailed out of there and explored the back side of the island, the sound, and down to Portsmouth. Many wonderful folks on this forum and their bark is definitely worse than their bite!

Look for the piece on "The best boat to Learn", and "Sweet 16". Keith Scott probably knows more about these boats than anyone. A NC boy as well. :)

Congrats, and welcome aboard!

To appease the sea gods, we did a renaming ceremony.  I had the crustiest crew of Compac skallywags to send the old name to the depths.  Key is to remove all trace of precious name first, and share the grog with as many sea gods as you can name.

It definitely worked, because is was challenged the next day, really challenged with Marty at helm, and all survived.

Bob will probably send bill sonnet or later for pontificating.

All the best...
