Introduction

Hello all.
I just bought my first boat 2 weeks ago. It's a Com-Pac 16 My sailing experience is limited to an afternoon on a girlfriends sunfish, a sail day on the bay manning a skip jack, and a ride on a properly built wooden sloop. I also spent several years on a Navy Destroyer.
Needless to say I have many questions for the membership, but will first study the site for the answers that may have already been answered.
I'm looking forward to spring.

Welcome aboard. I bought my 16 about a year ago and I did learn much and am still learning from the people on this site. When you go sailing this spring try to experince a varity of conditions. And practice different configurations of sail. Sail with just the jib/genoa. Practice reefing before you need to. I'm no expert, but doing this helped me. When you get comfortable, push it. But play safe. You will learn quickly.

Congrats on th CP-16 purchase.  I looked at one in MD a few weeks ago, and it was solid, good boat.  I would have bought it, but then I would be looking for new wife now...

The one I looked at was named Edelweiss.  Do you know what year your boat is?  Newer models have a bow sprit and bigger jib.  A few even have center boards.

There is a wealth of knowledge here, and a bit of blarney, but all good.

I still struggle with the semantics, e.g. line vs halyard vs sheet vs rope, which I think are generally all the same thing just in different places on (or off, e.g. rope) the boat.

The CP-16 is a great boat for relaxed sailing.

I reside in Odenton Maryland.
My CP 16 was built in 1985. No Bowsprit or centerboard, but nice cushions topside and below.
I found "Maya" in Easton MD.
The wood needs attention, but otherwise looks in pretty good shape. The trailer however needs new rollers, and I'm not sure it is set up properly as the keel only contacts 2 of the 3 rollers.

Welcome, we're just up the MARC rail tracks in Aberdeen.  I've never had any cushions, but a bean bag chair and a set of Type IV throwable floatation devices has sufficed for the crew.

My CP-16 only sits on two rollers as well, not sure the keel is long enough to hit three.  Sliding the boat back to try would take too much weight off the tongue.  I replaced the rear roller on the trailer so it actually spins/rolls, but the others tend to mostly just support the keel, spinning not really required.  Depends on the ramp.  Reading through posts, you'll find others with keel boards, no rollers at all.
