So can I get some coments on why the 16 is the most popular compac? Thanks

Reighnman

Size and cost.  It's one of the toughest 16 footers on the market and it's the perfect size for trailering, my 19 would be a chore rigging every time out. At 1100lbs is a sweet spot for towing with most vehicles. I drive an f150 and couldn't imagine going down the ramp in a car with a 19. The pricing point is "relatively" low, as are supplies, replacement parts, etc.  Great little boat that can take the weather and at the end of the day it fits nicely on the side of the house.

What he said.

Hit the nail exactly  on the head.

Both the C-16's that we have owned filled the: fun sailing,  affordability,  maintenance, good looking, portability issues.

Smooth Sailing.

Thanks again. Being a swab I'll probably be asking a lot more questions, some maybe a little lame. This is a whole new adventure for me in new quest for living

Finbar Beagle

Ditto, I love my 19, but am looking for a 16 to keep on a trailer, and expand sailing horizons, especially as the 16 can be towed by my Subaru...

Sails great.
Loads and unloads solo with ease.
Stability under sail and at the dock when rigging.
Simply beautiful in the water.
Hutchings in Clearwater for all kinds of advice and supplies.

Good luck and fair winds.
If not now..When?

Mr. Jazz:
Even though I'm a reasonable content 23 owner, I always have my eye peeled for a unloved 16. Same reason as Finbar, I'd like a trailerable boat to expand my sailing grounds. Plus the 23 and 16 share the same designer. I'd be fun to compare the sailing characteristics. Yeah that's it! Not like I WANT another boat, no it's an experiment!! Really, dear!!

Ha that's funny. My wife thinks I'm crazy at 66 for wanting one sailboat. But except for a few chronic aches and pains im not thinking about slowing down. Besides most all the people I have met sailing are in my age bracket and real friendly folks.

Well my friend most of our friends thought we were on drugs to get back into sailing at our age after a 25 year hiatus, and since sailors live in their basement and think 7 mph is fast it appears it must be drugs!

We learned to sail with a CP16 over thirty-five years ago and now have another. Can't say enough about them except to say we may eventually sell our PSC 31 someday but never the 16. Read some of Keith Scott's articles about the 16. I know you have spoken with him.

Oh and Bob23, they sail just like a 23 except you can use your weight to affect performance in ways you cannot on a 23. You know you want one!
