Hello, I have been looking for a motor for my 16' for a while. I have found a deal on one but the only problem is it is a short shaft. Will this work or do I need to keep looking. Thanks

The short shaft is fine on the c-16 in my opinion,  what kind of motor is it?  I know on most you can buy the shaft extension if you sail in big waves often and find the short shaft doesn't work for you.

Thanks for the reply. It is a Tohatsu 3.5 hp short shaft. I do have a motor mount that lowers, I just hear everbody talking about long shafts for the 16'. Will the motor mount help in lager waves. Thanks

I use this same motor on my CP16 but it is a long shaft. I do not need to lower my motor mount under most conditions. The short shaft will work but you will need to lower the mount. Incidentally, I believe this motor is well suited for the 16. Light weight and more than ample power. It is simple and well built. I do have the model with neutral shift which makes it easy to use, especially getting in and out of my slip.

I run a 2hp evenrude short shaft. The motor has plenty of power but will lift when my 200#'s goes forward. If I was to replace I would go with a long shaft.

I run a Honda 2hp long shaft on my 16. Like you I looked around what others were using and it seemed the long shaft won out so that's what I went with.
It will drag in the water a bit when heeled well to port.

I think the correct answer is a short shaft will work fine, and so will the long shaft :-)
